Transcript:

Have you ever wondered whether you’re using the right consonant sounds in the right words when you speak British English? Have you ever wish that you knew how to pronounce consonant sounds accurately?

Well, in this video I’m going to show you exactly how to pronounce 1 of the 5 most commonly mispronounced consonants and its most typical spellings. So, here we go:

This video is about the ng sound, the ng sound.

Now, you make this sound with the lips relaxed, and the raised up and touching the soft palate in the back of your mouth. The soft palate is also dropped and the sound comes up and out through your nose. This is a nasal consonant.

Now be careful not to the ad the g in this sound because it's often represented by an ng spelling, which in British English tends to be silent especially at the end of a word.

So have a go at these: bring, being, clearing, morning, something, meeting.

Although, be careful, because not every written r is pronounced in British English, we tend only to pronounce rs that are followed by vowel sounds.

Here are some practice words: broken, worried, wrong, wrap, rhythm.
