Batman has been a staple of Superhero animation. Batman the Animated Series is considered one of the best animated shows of all time, but Batman Beyond created one of the best Batman stories ever made. Batman Beyond can sometimes be overlooked due to the success of Batman TAS, but still hold a place as some of fan's favorite episodes.

This episode has one of my favourite Batman lines ever. After the reveal of Ra's is Talia's body he mentions Ra's will do anything to cheat death. He then says "I take it back, you don't cheat death, you wimper in fear of it." That line hits so damn hard.

This episode had one of my favorite jokes. Terry said something about how hearing Ra's voice through Talia's body was freaking him out. To which Bruce says something like "You're freaked out? I'm the one who kissed her!"

Just the delivery of the line had me in stitches.

I used to watch Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker on a loop when I was a kid. Still holds up, as does the series

I feel like this show is underrated, maybe it’s just me but definitely one of my favorite animated series ever

You know, I never really thought about it before, but "Batman the Musical" really must be a knife in the chest for Bruce, seeing Joker and Harley prancing around the stage with a kidnapped Robin in front of Arkham Asylum. Not to mention his histories with Two-Face and Catwoman.

Bruce picking up the cane at the end is also a good touch. It represented him accepting what he is now and moving forward with it.

Equal parts batman and Spiderman...that is a perfect explanation of why I liked it so much. Terri's quick wit and smart mouth are similar to the animated versions of Spiderman. That witty banter were great. Terri using it against joker and pointing out that batman didn't talk much was perfect.

I don’t understand how WB doesn’t use HBOmax to its full advantage and bring back/continue these beloved shows. Look at the success of Invincible. A Batman Beyond comeback that’s slightly more mature since it’s on streaming would be giant

Is Bruce's relationship with Terry the most healthy one he has had? It seems he learned alot about how to love with the mistakes he made with rest of the bat family

Batman Beyond really is great. A live action adaptation with Timm/Dini at the helm would be amazing. Keaton as old Bruce would be cool too. I actually thought Pattison would be a better Terry than a Bruce

Further adding to the genius of the opening scene: at the time this episode was in production, there *was* a Batman Broadway musical in the works, with longtime Meat Loaf songwriter Jim Steinman composing the score. It languished in development hell for years before production was finally cancelled in 2005. If you're curious as to how it might have sounded, one of its songs ("In The Land Of The Pig, The Butcher Is King") eventually wound up on Meat Loaf's Bat Out Of Hell III.

Speaking of coming back out of the past and perfect episodes, don’t forget about the heartbreaking conclusion to Mr Freeze’s storyline.

“You’ve gotta get or of here Freeze! The whole place is coming down!”

“Believe me…

You’re the only one who cares.”

I always thought they did great writing for Terry to make him a good protagonist. Following Kevin Conroy as Bruce was tough. Props to Will Friedle who voiced Terry too.

I really liked batman beyond when I was a kid. More so than the previous batman series (though I watched both a lot) I should probably give both series a rewatch now that I'm older

It upsets me a lot that they’ve actually brought Michael Keaton back as Batman but they’re not doing a Batman beyond film with him.

As an old man whose life has passed him by and has no future....good job. I used to watch this show religiously back in the day. Funny how I never really made the connection between Terry and Peter. Wonderful break down.

It’s amazing how this show is still popular to this day. Many years ago I thought this show would have been forgotten but it’s not thank god

Seeing Terry walk down the stairs singing brought that song ranging back in my memory with a vengeance. "A superstitious cowardly lot" the DCAU crews ability to make catchy musical numbers is scary.

Dopest series Batman beyond gives as the big pass on the torch. Feels awesome that even though Terry McGinnis isn’t really a superior Batman, but is able to be a total badass with dope charisma and fighting skills with the dopest batsuit. Warner bros really need to create a live action Batman beyond with tanner Buchanan as Terry.
