A new toy for my workshop,

A Triton TSPST450, 450w oscillating spindle and belt sander.

An un-boxing and first look at the sander to see if it is any good.

Filmed in the middle of a workshop re-vamping, so quickly filmed (so a couple of strange camera positions).

Hopefully a follow up video will be made of a basic roller cabinet so I can move this around the shop quickly.
See the roller cabinet video here:-

Please let me know if you found this video interesting or of any use.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks for watching.

Please like and subscribe.

I hope you Enjoy the video.

Cheers Frank. I couldn’t decide if I should go for this model or the TSPS450 which is only a spindle sander. The reviews claim that the latter has a better build quality, cast iron table etc. However, I’m sure if you felt the build quality was letting it down, you’d have said so. As you didn’t, that’s good enough for me. The belt/spindle sander is the way forward. 👍🏼👍🏼

I remember Norm Abram of “The New Yankee Workshop” using an oscillating spindle sander quite often.

I'm using the Rigid version of this tool, and just based on some differences which you would think would be fairly minor, I prefer what I'm seeing from the Triton.

The dust collection is definitely superior on the Triton. There is almost no effective dust collection on the Rigid.

Although I see similarities, I still see many differences in how they approached the design of the unit from manufacturing considerations. As a manufacturing engineer, and Manufacturing engineering manager, as well as now being lucky enough to take on the job of production manager in my ample spare time, I think about these things, I don't know how my wife puts up with me sometimes! I also see how they approach the design from a standpoint of how the customer is going to use the unit. Without getting into any specifics, because I don't want to disparage the rigid machine unfairly, especially because I am using it on loan to me from a friend, who works for the company, and I am very grateful for the use of the tool, but I do intend on buying the Triton in the near future.

Can the belt be turned over when the lower part is worn out? Same with the cylinders?

Titan abrasive belt cleaner, that’ll help extend your belts. Only a few quid I think.

When you buy a set of sanding tubes they come with a 75mm one, but the machine does not come with a 75mm bobbin. You can buy one from Amazoom, but you need a new insert to accommodate it. On YouTube somewhere. Also there is another YT of someone making a fence for the machine to doing flat ‘planing’ sanding.
