Just bought what i thought were correct sized jeans, waist already loose after one or two wears. Also prefer a higher rise pair over those that just barely cling to your hips.

My step-father, who was born in 1918, had no choice but to wear jeans and bib overalls during the depression. When he became an adult, he refused to wear them. I never once saw him in them. He hated that I and my mom wore jeans all the time. Meanwhile, he wore slacks and, mainly, plaid golf pants. kinda like the sales guy on WKRP, lol.

As a tailor for a major retailer, I am fitting both men and women in jeans. I have on numerous occasions recommended sizing down when there was 5% or more stretch. You're absolutely right that most people do not understand this. They simply ask for a particular size. More often than not the measure or size listed on the garment is not accurate. For instance, a waist 34 may measure 35 or more inches, and if there is added stretch, could easily fit a person who wears a waist 36. Manufacturers have in recent years made the sizing much more unreliable in an attempt to create a particular fit (Regular, Tapered, Slim, Extra Slim, Standard, Relaxed, etc.

I’m not hand washing and hang drying jeans…don’t care how much longer they will last. But, I do wash them in cold water, turned inside out, and use dark defense woolite…tumble dry on medium heat. And I will wear them about three times before washing. All of that seems to preserve the color for quite a while.

Fun fact - at 6:45 you can see a Toyoda loom. That company is the predecessor to the Toyota car company.

Great video, Antonio! You always wear your blue jeans super well. You can wear yours with polo shirts and button-down shirts.

great tips, my first experience with raw denim (21oz) was bought 2 size down because genuinely on the size chart it fit me, and only after the 1st soak it shrank quite far since it is also unsanforized, I had to really force it to pass the hip bone, and had to endure numb feeling when sitting for the first month, and through some first few washes I had to endure the shrinkage again over and over in a lesser and lesser degree (through a year perhaps), until finally it settles and now 5 years later the jeans top block still fit me perfectly.

I also like reinforced fly opening for jeans with button fly, because we tend to "rip" or "yank" open the fly, sometime the stitching on base of the fly opening can rip apart from this frequent opening motion, and to me the most important is the position of the back pocket, especially if you carry wallet.

the small pocket for me is my "usb flash drive stick" pocket, I never put anything other than that in those, I wonder if that small pocket was really meant for a pocket watch or that is another myth, because it is on the right side, and usually pocket watch is worn on the left side the same how we wear wristwatch on the left side, since if we are right handed the right hand is operating a machine or doing something and our left hand is checking the time.

I wonder if japan truly bought old machine from US or not because they also use Toyoda (toyota) looms from old time, they always been great at making strong fabrics for karate Gi, judo Gi, kendo Gi and other farmer or worker coat since before world war 2, its not hard to preset their own machine to produce twill in denim yarns to mimic those from the west with their own looms. Probably higher chance they imported the chainstitch machine from US than a loom machine.

When I was young, we never called them denim or jeans. We called them dungarees.

I have jeans that are 20+ years. I wash them after every use, except for the jackets, and I've always had machines with agitators. And treat them as if I've been rolling around with lepers. Deep cleaning. That said, I hang them, I don't have a dryer. Only time is when I'm visiting family. And I find those are the times my jeans have aged. As for detergent, I'm sensitive so I use whatever s clear, no perfume or anything. And I don't use fabric softener. And my jeans have lasted for decades. As for new jeans. I almost never come across a good jean. That covers all I want. Good fabric, good cut, good pockets.

Exactly, Inseam Matters. My Waist is 26 inches Wide and my Hips are 35 inches Wide as a Male. It's very hard for me to put on jeans.

For many years, in my teens/early twenties I always used to go for oversized, baggy jeans, the kind that the skater/alternative kids used to wear and I wore them for many years without thinking about how I looked, I didn’t worry about it either. These days, now I’m in my fourties’ I like a nice pair of Levi’s 501s or other such style of theirs or a pair of wranglers which fit a lot tidier and don’t look so ridiculous on me. They have to fit me properly though because I like to wear them and find it quite sad when one of my favourite pairs are no longer wearable. I’ve recently had to throw a pair out, getting excited about going shopping for a new pair before realising that I’ve got six or more pairs in my cupboard so maybe next year Santa.

Spot on - if I buy jeans with a bit of elasticity, I will buy a straight leg in a size down.
