2018 Walter Westman Lecture on Science, Humanity and the Environment

Finding hope and courage in the era of climate change: how you can make a difference offers a glimpse into Anna's personal journey as an ordinary person who found a way to make an impact. Anna outlines her frameworks for how everyone can take their own steps to tackle one of the biggest issues facing the world today… and it's more interesting than just changing your lightbulbs!

Anna Rose recently completed a Myer Foundation Innovation Fellowship. Previously she was National Manager for Earth Hour with WWF-Australia, where she developed public-facing climate change campaigns including 'Lights Out for the Reef' and 'Appetite for Change' in the lead up to the 2015 U.N. climate talks in Paris. Whilst at University, Anna co-founded the Australian Youth Climate Coalition and was National Co-Director for five years. She is author of the book Madlands: A Journey to Change the Mind of a Climate Sceptic (MUP, 2012) and co-starred in the ABC documentary 'I Can Change Your Mind on Climate Change'.

The annual lecture series is held in honour of International House alumnus Dr Walter Westman, a resident of the House from 1967 and winner of the International House Alumni Award for Achievement in 1988. Westman was a prolific researcher in the fields of ecology, geography and environmental policy, publishing Ecology, Impact Assessment, and Environmental Planning, the first integrated text on the subjects.
