For years. Decades as a Chinese kid in South East Asia growing up in a predominantly Western and Japanese culture games and media I long to see such a update to Chinese myth in AAA games. As much as I love Star Wars lore and God of War. It is really nice to see my ancestors culture in a modern game like this. I am satisfied.

FYI, the English Subtitle isn't exactly that "well" translated as they missed out a lot of character hierarchy here. So basically, the lady that brought "you" which is the game character into their mansion is the 2nd Sister. The first 2 lady u see shortly are the 3rd and 4th sisters. And the one seated and playing with a spider is the 5th Sister. The final one that came out (with moles beside her lips) is the eldest sister. They are all implied to be a Demoness, specifically SPIDER Demoness. Wondering why all of them look so normal? Because even in chinese folktale since history, demoness usually takes form in beautiful HUMANOID ladies. The final old lady is the MOTHER of them all, AKA the MAIN Spider Demoness.

This cutscene brings a lot of info if you really look into it, so deep but make sense as black myth compare to origin. Really excited for the game release.

Just a wild guess for the story background. The setting of the story in Wukong Black Myth should be in an alternative universe where the demons managed to defeat the deities in sky palace, which seemingly happened hundreds of years after the original journey to the west storyline. The core concept of the setting is about revolution. Since the universe seems in chaos and still suffers regardless of the ruler of the world has changed (from corrupted deity to demons), the main character, wukong’s dupe, decide to take the journey to the west again but to defeat his master, the real wukong, who as the leader of demons and who has also became corrupted because of the social state he gain after becoming the ruler of the world. And so this journey is mean to remove all good and evil that rules the old world and stop the cycle once and for all, return the world to a state where nobody rules it as it means to be.
