Judge fines Donald Trump $9,000 for contempt

Donald Trump has been held in contempt of court and fined $9,000 by the judge overseeing his criminal trial over social media posts he made containing attacks on expected witnesses in the case.

The former president was accused by prosecutors of breaching so-called gag orders from Judge Juan Merchan in ten statements made on his social media platform and on his website, assailing the porn star Stormy Daniels and Trump’s former attorney Michael Cohen.

Legally the judge cannot be a judge in his own case Therefore the contempt procedings should be held in front of another judge. Trump's lawyers will not tell him because their first sworn duty is to the court not their client.
