Finlands army has been training for a Russian invasion since WW2. They are an extremely competent army. You should be asking how some of the members like Hungary got in there.

With sagars logic you could easily ask why did the fate of Europe matter to us in ww2? Or the fate of South korea or Taiwan ?

Finland has been spending over 2% of GDP on defense for years, Saagar really has no idea what he's talking about

Come on Saagar, do a little research. Finland brings the ability to quickly attack Russia nuclear and air bases that sit on that peninsula. They also have about 300k people in their army, about 800 tanks, 100+ jet fighters, artillery, special forces that know the area and more importantly, will cause russia to spend more money now protecting that long border. Also that whole sea is now controlled by Nato

I swear every foreign policy discussion on breaking points goes straight to "this is gonna cause nuclear

Finland has a pretty large military. Saagar out of his depth with this one.

1:03 "Finland, who we've never had a security guarantee with ever before."

That's simultaneously true and misleading. The way this is framed makes it sound like Finland's military relationship with the US and NATO just sprang up as a result of Ukraine in 2022. The truth is that Finland and Sweden have had long-term military ties with the US for decades. American troops deployed to Finland to train with its army, Finnish jets fly to the US for Red Flag. Finland has been using American-made aircraft since at least the 1950s. Finland was always close to the West. Ukraine just pushed them to finally, formally, join NATO.

On the topic of "dying for Helsinki", NATO is the surest bet to prevent direct military conflict with Russia. For all his bluster and the constant "DIRE WARNINGS" Putin throws out, Russia knows it doesn't stand a chance against NATO. That's the reason they fear other countries joining NATO. It's part of the reason that he invaded Ukraine: To keep it out of NATO.

Putin knows that the moment a nation joins the alliance, they are permanently out of Russia's reach.

I don't like NATO expansion but when you see one of your neighbors breaking in and robbing another neighbor's house, yeah you kinda want to be part of the neighborhood watch program.

You guys should NEVER touch international affairs and geopolitics. You have ZERO understanding in those topics. Discuss only what happens in the US

We have had a NATO presence within 100 miles to Russia's largest Naval base since the founding of NATO. Russia's black sea fleet has had to navigate through a NATO country since the 1950s in Turkey. No NATO country has ever invaded or attacked Russia or the Soviet Union.

Wow! So you are saying that an independent country cannot join an alliance of other independent countries, because a local bully with imperialistic ambitions does not like it?

When you purchase home security plan and your neighbour is vocally frustrated because of that then it means it was a good decision.

Y’all forgot to add that Finland wasn’t even interested into joining NATO until Russia started threatening them for DARING to condemn their imperialism.

My garandfather fought russians in Winter War and Continuation War and Finland was the only nation in World War 2, that didn't get invaded. Their tactics haven't changed at all from the 40s. Same military doctrine, same mistakes then and now in Ukraine.

I feel like Saagar wishes the US was an isolationist country.

Also, Finland has one of the highest enlistment rates of any country and is extremely well militarized. Good ally in a bad location.

Saagar's geopolitical ignorance is puzzling, accepting Finland to NATO is a no-brainer, Finland has the strongest artillery in Western Europe and thanks to conscription a huge number of reservists. It is a fact that NATO is the guarantee of peace and stability for all its members and there's no point listening to Russian whining and excuses. Allowing Russia to freely invade other countries, as Krystal naively demands, would definitely set the table for future conflicts.

It's "Accession", Saagar, you keep saying ascension.
At first it made me think like Finland was some kind of poor country that needed a hand to get up.

What Finland brings to the table? Well, a pretty kick ass military for one, and the fact that they actually fought Russia before and won)

Saagar should learn to read a map.

Russia has been a threat to the Baltic countries ever since they became free from the Soviet Union, and the Ukraine invasion proves the risk to those countries. Sweden and Finland offer a major base for the defense of their Baltic neighbors.

With hypersonic missiles, the long-standing military concept of buffer states is no longer really relevant for Russia (or us, for that matter). So Russia also should learn to read a map.
