Kyle at The HiveGate, is just now uncovering the constant stress we are keeping our bees under by having a wide open entrance. Basically with wide open entrances that bees are Constantine trying to maintain high temps and humidity but is impossible with a wide open entrance. This is where the HiveGate comes in. It’s genius and gives the hive full control. Les stress

I believe that a lawn chair is an essential component for a hive entrance. Nothing better than a nice summer day of bee watching. A distant dream, with -18F ambient temp this morning. Thanks for your videos David!

Thanks, David, also a reason to flip the wood entrance reducer is where the hole is up. It helps to keep the entrance open in the winter when the bees are doing less house keeping a the body can block the entrance. Thanks for all you do.

Thanks for the info. Always good to have seasoned beekeepers explain all those things for us newer beeks. I’m starting year two.

Awesome! I was looking at my supplies to get ready to start my journey in beekeeping and all of these questions came to mind. You nailed that one for me, that was spot on! I know to the veteran beekeeper this may be 101 but to the newbee this was gold! I was getting ready to do some digging on proper entrance settings when your video popped up. Fantastic!

David, I use the sticky board to determine when mites are present, then the wash to determine the load. So until I see just one mite I don’t kill those 300 bees in the alcohol wash. Seem reasonable?

Is the robber screen any good on polystyrene hives? Thank you for the quality videos David

Bees control the opening size with propolis naturally, no need to try and reinvent the wheel.

What advice would you give a trucker that is not necessarily at home all the time?

if you have the robber screen on then how do the bees get rid of dead bees out of the hive.?

So I looked on your website for this bottom board and couldn't find it.

I personally have entrances set 24/7/365 @ 3½in X ⅜in

If I turn the bottom board to reduce the entrance to 3/8, wouldn’t that stop mice?

Hi! Does the robber screen hinder them from carrying out the dead bees inside the hive?

When robbing starts, could you move the hive 20+miles away to stop the robbing?

Does having a top entrance help or hurt during the honey flow? Seems it would make it easier for the foragers but it would also make it easier for the robbers.
