Want a breakdown of what TBS is? TBS stands for The Basic School, and is a school that all US Marine Officers must attend before they are sent off to the fleet.

There are three courses here: Basic Officer Course, Warrant Officer Basic Course, and Infantry Officer Course.
If you want to know what goes on at The Basic School, who attends it, and much more, watch this video!

Beats we commonly use are produced by Pleur Beats and Nnovad.

Great overview. I went through in ‘85 and again for 3 years as an SPC and instructor (remedial TBS). Loved both stints. TBS is a large part of what makes the Corps so strong.

Thank you so much for this video! My son is a newly commissioned 2nd Lieutenant and reports to TBS on 10/17. I am so freaking proud of him (but will miss him horribly.) 😢

As an Army officer, I've served alongside Marine officers. Great respect and teamwork. Blessings to the Marines. But, Go Army, Beat Navy!

My parents freaked when I told them that Marine OCS is what I want to do after having graduated from an ivy league school lol.
And I know, I know, "do what you want, not what your parents want." It's not that simple though. I'm thinking of going to grad school for an allied health profession, so I'll have secured a lifelong career if I choose to spend 4+ years in the military.

Hey 2 things, definitely would love to see a video on IOC, and also a video on the selection for MOS at TBS. I was talking to an OSO for a while, and the way he explained it made me very weary and as a result I’m going with army OCS. So a video further explaining that would be awesome.

The footage in the beginning is stock footage of the FFI and MAIT courses...also conducted on Camp Barrett.

If you don't have one. Do a video on the TBS 9-day war. (Are they still doing 9?) As a 1992-1993 Winter Alpha Company grad, I found the war physically harder (environment -20 degrees, more sleep deprivation) than any of my actual combat tours. Then again, our Company CO just got back as an exchange officer with the Royal Marines and wanted to take it out on us. There was a Hump (Hike for you outside the MC) every Friday :) That's why we loved it! Oorah!

Here’s what I remember from my TBS class in June 1978. Yea I know you weren’t even born then but suck it up. MOS’s were distributed into thirds meaning top third, middle third and bottom third. Trying to game your position would be impossible. My class was full of Academy guys Naval Academy, Citadel etc additionally top ranked colleges. I had average grades from a small private college wi5 NROTC. As I remember ranked in the middle third of class standing which under the circumstances was as expected. Now the Academy guys they all wanted to fly as I did until finishing boot camp. All I wanted to do was be an infantry officer. Even turned down my guaranteed papers to get to flight school. At TBS our class really focused on infantry stuff we lived in the mud. Much to my surprise when the dream sheets came out we had 60 Lieutenants and 30 0302 infantry slots. I was very fortunate got 0302 and first choice Camp Pendleton as my FMF Base. Was it the real deal yup training was very good not a substitution for real experience but both TBS and IOC (Advanced Infantry Course) it got you ready for the Fleet. it really comes down to one question….. Do you really want it?

Thanks for posting these videos! If you have the time you should do a video on officer MOS’s like ground intelligence officer, infantry officer, recon platoon officer, and other ones too!

I would appreciate seeing a video on the MESEP process; what are the expectations that MESEP candidates experience, what a MESEP candidate should expect out of themselves, and academic preparations they can make to excel.
