This is a big part of why I started to do my own hard gel (also cost 😅). I can replace it if I get any lifting. Doing my own art is pretty great, too. I've gotten inspiration from some of your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

im so glad it was just dirt under the nail! gave me flashbacks to the time i got my thumbnail mashed during all the ruckus and celebrations at a hockey game, it was pretty painful, but not enough for me to expect what happened next. product adhesion was great so i had no idea my real nail plate had separated from my nail bed until my tech was removing the gel polish and half of my entire nail was green and black, i was so embarrassed because of how gross it looked and i thought i had done something wrong not keeping it clean enough. thankfully my nail tech was very kind and helped remove the lifted part of my nail plate, and by then the nail bed underneath was healed. now whenever i see the greenies i think of that lol

Oh my goodness I was so worried it was fungus. That happened to me before when I went to a new salon, and I haven't been to a salon since. It took so long to go away! I didn't want anyone to notice the nail so I just put nail polish on it so I wouldn't have to look at it (but have easy removal to check on it) and it eventually disappeared after a few weeks. I know now that it's a bad idea to paint your nails when there's fungus, but I didn't know better at the time and I was embarrassed about it. But anyway, I do my nails at home only now because of that experience, and also because it's expensive going out to get fills and a lot of salons don't really care about the clients, just how quickly they can get it done and get paid. I wish I knew independent nail techs in my area though because I know they do a really good job.

I am an Esthetician and do see this.Water under it can cause a mildew before it could turn to a fungus. Yes removal is best.

Did anyone else feel like they needed to protect their face and lungs watching this or am I just crazy?

I like using press-on nails for this reason. Very easy to remove, correct, and reset at the first sign of lifting.

Do you clean the drill bits? I’m trying to learn what to look for in a good salon in terms of hygiene compliance.

Reminds me of why I started to do my own after I had a similar experience but it wasn’t dirt is was like fungus or infection. Never had it happen again since doing them myself.

This is scary I had a fungus that ate right through my nail. I prayed it would grow back and it did and I’ve never gotta acrylic again. My nails have never been healthier. Be safe out there!

i got my nails done by a beginner nail tech who was a friend. i told her my nail was turning green and she said it was probably just dirt under my nail. it was smelling funny so i removed the polygel and lo and behold my nail was rotting under the manicure she did bc there was lifting and water got trapped. she continued to insist she did nothing wrong but i‘d had them for a week and half my nail was green (i learned since then she didn‘t do proper nail prep, which is why i know do my own nails

I was worried it might be the greenies. I do occasionally find hair sticking out from under lifting product lol.

This is why when I wore acrylics, I got a new set every third time. Now, I am investing in solids, a good lamp, and a drill. Thank you for reminding me of hygiene for nails.

God, I'm so glad I started going to a nail place that don't remove nails like this anymore. I swear the amount of damage I used to end up with because of how thin my real nails had got from just filing off like this instead of a soak off was unreal.
