Thank you for sharing your story, and relaying what the police told you. I am sorry that happened to you. You bring up a very good point about crew interaction that I want to expand upon.
A contractor told me that if I want to be nice to leave drinks when it is hot to just put them in a cooler outside before the crew arrive and leave a note so they know it is for them. Furthermore I was told that crew interaction is a two way street and it is best kept to a minimum. That way the issues you experienced can be minimized where possible (unfortunately for you it was the point of contact) and the crew don't have to worry about someone stating they made certain claims about the work being done, accusing them of damage to the property or stealing, coming up to them in public with an issue about the project, trying to hire them under the table for side jobs while on site, etc.

Pausing video to remember to tell you THANK YOU for the helpful information about aiming for the collar bone. That makes total sense.

I am so sorry that you and your family went through that! Self-defense - Yes! Family code word - Yes! Enlist the help of authorities and anyone else who can watch your back - Yes! Happy to see you able to tell the story from a strong emotional space.

Twenty years later, unfortunately here in NY we now have "bail reform" laws, so that even if arrested a threatening person is not only arraigned and immediately released with an appearance ticket for court, they must be given all victim and witness contact information within 15 days or arraignment. We are also restricted with gun rights, although it recently got better. Thank God this person went away and you were not physically harmed. Thank you for sharing.

What a terribly awful situation! To be made to feel unsafe in your home and everywhere else, and to have your family threatened is the stuff nightmares are made of. Thank goodness he moved on eventually. Hopefully laws elsewhere were more strict.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I was a nurse years ago and have 2 young men just like you do. My husband and I raised them to respect others.

This is so terrifying! I’m so sorry this happened to you. My husband’s cousin had a stalker for over a decade. Luckily, he was never threatening. Of course, it was still terrible. One day he just stopped. Crazy!

So sorry this happened. I think most of us have had a scare and it opens our eyes to the possibility of what could happen like it did with you. My husband is always telling me “pay attention”. He is not overprotective just aware of the potential dangers. I am so glad he did not hurt you or your family although it did leave a emotional scar I am sure. Love your videos!!

I’ve had 2 stalker in my life one was a contractor (the head) who was hired to replace all the windows in my home. He started after I turned down a date that he then mentioned he hadn’t seen a man coming or going from my home . Lucky for me I got my ex husband and father of my child to come spend 2 wks with us and eventually I stopped hearing from him. I suggest single ladies keep mens shoes at the front door

I am glad you shared this story. It's a conversation that we all should have. I was stalked for 10 years. Gave up my job, my home, everything and went into hiding over a decade ago. Still I never thought much about being friendly to the people who come to my house to do work. I will be more aware of this thanks to your story. Thank you!

I have a story I will keep it short, in a store 50 yrs. ago in a Woolco store I was 9 and looking at doll. An old man with rotten teeth, pretty scary looking offered to buy my whatever I want if I would go with him. I refused and went to find my mom, I couldn’t find her. He followed me all over the story feeling underwear and scaring me to death. I ran into a women’s washroom (I thought he can’t go into a woman’s washroom) crying onto the arms of a woman. She asked what was wrong. I told her, she opened the door and he was waiting just outside the door. They took him to the store front called the police but, he never touched me. So they could do nothing, I’m glad my dad was not there. The police came to our home that night and told my sister and I to stand in the middle of the floor and scream your head off, that will send them running never go somewhere like a washroom. It’s my baseball bat version. I feel that knowledge could save a child or even a woman’s life. It seems no matter what age we are we need to be smart about our surroundings and the people we allow into our lives. I’m so glad you had a good ending to your story.

First of all, thank goodness no one was harmed. I cannot even imagine how terrifying that must have been.

You are so brave to have related this terrifying time in your life. You are such a great example of a religious family. I grew up in a city in the south that had a large Jewish community . No one made a difference. I am with you, I would had a gun and a big dog too. You are such a great example in so many ways. Sorry for the novelette.

So sorry you went through this ordeal. About fifteen years ago my husband’s Aunt which we dearly loved was murdered. She was friendly to a guy that worked for a tree service. He came and gave her an estimate then came back to do the job. He was to return the next day and remove the tree stump. She was drinking her coffee on her deck when he grabbed her took her inside and stabbed her fifty times. How they figured out who killed her she had his name on her calendar to come that day. So she solved her on murder. So sad it doesn’t pay to be nice.

Thank you for sharing. Stalkers are more common than people talk about. I experienced it twice when I was in my 20s. The best advice the police gave me was to declare ‘I am afraid for my life’. It enabled the police to take additional action, albeit limited. The laws are better now, but still limited. Teach your daughters to not error on the side of being too friendly.

I also had a stalker….he was contracted help for a major corporation that I worked for. I was a training instructor and he was in charge of setting up classrooms. I “befriended” him because everyone knows it’s important to getting things done in a timely way or for getting “favors”…like an extra box of markers….well….apparently he really liked me and started calling all hours of the night while making himself “ really happy” if you get my drift….it was extremely creepy and just yucky! At first I didn’t know it was him and when we finally figured it out….my boss at the time called the police. He was terminated and thankfully I never heard from him again…..but I always made sure when I walked to the car at night….I was in a group of people! It’s not a nice experience but I think it’s important to share these stories so people are aware that it really happens and it’s not just the plot of a TV show!

This came up in my YouTube list today, and I'm so sorry you had to endure this! I'm pretty strong on gun control, but 100% understand your need for protection! I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been for you, especially with two young boys. Many years ago, when I was single, I had a phone stalker, and lived in Wichita, KS during the days of BTK, so understand a bit of how you must have felt Thank God you all weren't harmed! It sounds like you were very strong for your family.
