That Brennan Girl, also known as Tough Girl, is a 1946 American melodrama film produced and directed by Alfred Santell and starring James Dunn, Mona Freeman, William Marshall, and June Duprez.
The story concerns a young woman raised in an unwholesome environment who joins a confidence racket run by one of her mother's friends. She agrees to marry the victim of one of her scams, becomes a war widow, and is left to raise a baby, but abandons it each evening to go out dancing. After the child suffers an accident in her absence, she is charged with child neglect and loses custody. She mends her ways by devotedly caring for an abandoned infant and meets up again with the con man, who has also reformed after a prison stint, and together they build a new life. The film was the last work of director Santell and the last leading role for actor Dunn.

The telegram shown at 46:25 lists the address as 513 Frederick Street, SF. If you look that up in Google Maps in street view, you'll see the house with a large front arch that appears in the movie at 4:25 (although the actual house address is probably 517, since you can see the small building next door is 515, and it looks like the addresses increase from the corner).

This movie is a curious mash up of noir, wholesome feel good drama, war movie. Mona Freeman carries it with an assist from her "big sister". MF is sparkling throughout the film, really seems to have her heart in it and is quite beautiful. How did she end up the unattractive little sister of Joan Caulfield in Dear Ruth??

Great movie, but I can't see why the cabbie knew that Dunn (other than Dunn calling him by name, Joe) knew Mona and that Mona was at Goldengate Park!
