If you're considering living abroad, Mexico might be a good place to start. But for Americans considering moving to Mexico, the next questions are often: Is Mexico safe? What are the best places to live in Mexico?

In terms of overall quality of life in Mexico, Queretaro often ranks as one of the most livable cities. However, it comes at a price. Although it is significantly more affordable than most places in the USA, it is considered a relatively expensive city by Mexico standards.

With that said, you'll still probably think Queretaro is very affordable if you're moving from anywhere in the USA or Canada.

I want to thank you very much for recommending Queretaro.

I have been to 10 states in Mexico over 3 years, searching for the perfect place to settle long term.

My favourite place used to be San Cristobal, Chiapas. But I kept getting violently ill there due to the disgusting and toxic water system contaminating every kind of food in restaurants and markets. I had to leave.

I finally came to Queretaro because of your recommendations and without a doubt it is my favourite place in Mexico. The friendliest and most helpful people. A wide variety of restaurants and markets with amazing food. Clean, safe streets. The most beautiful centro. The best weather. And they have golf courses! It’s perfect. I’m staying here.

Thank you sir! You’re correct.

Living In Morelia, I didn't realize you were that close. We live in a beautiful house, nearly 4000 sq ft, 3 bdrm/3 ba, in a nice neighborhood. We pay 8000 pesos $400 USD per month...

Tangerine Travels was one of the first YouTube channels I watched when I began entertaining that wild thought about relocating- and to a different country. Now I am actually in the process of making a relocation to Mexico a reality. The process will take awhile: selling, financial etc but have chosen 2-3 cities that I think I would like. I specifically remember this YouTube when it aired and yes, Querétaro is one of those cities. Your information helps! I have had enough of the US and all the drama. Exhausting living here and as a senior wiant to live out my final years with a better quality of life. I lived in Spain for a short while and realized other countries and their priorities make for a better quality of life. My first exploratory trip will be Queretaro. Thank you for great information! and even a year later!

I lived in Querétaro back in 2019 when I was teaching English at a language school there. Everything you mentioned is spot on! It’ll always have a special place in my heart ❤️

Also, Querétaro is only a short 3 hour bus ride to CDMX. It’s a very convenient location. 😊

Good stuff. I used to go to that Korean Grill with mi ex-novia. There's also the Kim's Kitchen in Centro Plaza Mariano that you should check out. The dumplings are awesome. Another benefit about living here is for people who like the great outdoors, the Sierra Gorda is a two hour drive away. I've been on camping trips out there.

For flights, I don't know if you're aware, but they're opening up direct flights to Cabo San Lucas next month.

Another great video. Had you not mentioned anything about editing I wouldn't have noticed. Rewatched it today paying attention and still just as quality as before.

I also live in Queretaro and I like the city very much for many of the same reasons mentioned in this video. However, I don't agree with some of the things that were said. Mexican food in Queretaro is good and cheap for the most part but if you want international food good luck. As someone who has been lucky enough to have traveled around much of the world I have to say Queretaro disappoints, especially for Asian food which is almost non-existent. What is called Chinese, Japanese (especially Sushi) or Thai is unrecognizable with a few exceptions. In addition to this Queretaro is one of the most expensive cities in Mexico and although things like healthcare and housing are inexpensive in Mexico for the most part (especially rents) most other things cost more than in the US. For instance anything imported is usually very expensive whether it be wine or power tools. A decent bottle of Mezcal is going to cost 3 times the price of a Stohle vodka. Appliances, cars, furniture and a good beef steak are all more expensive than in the states. And while healthcare is inexpensive compared to the U.S. for many people, it is not if you are retired and have medicare in the U.S. And while it is true you can get cheap flights inside Mexico for some places others are not so cheap. Yes, I can go to Tijuana for $200 roundtrip but only if I leave at 1:55 AM in the morning and carry no luggage. If I go to the popular destination of Oaxaca with a single suit case it is going to cost me more than $400 U.S..

Also, the video did not mention that the traffic in Queretaro is horrible at almost any hour. And the power goes off all the time, sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes for as long as 19 hours in my case. And when I went to buy a generator it cost 3X what the same generator cost in the U.S. When it rains many streets flood. In addition water is becoming an issue in many locations. I am not talking about drinking it (you can't do that anywhere in Mexico), I am talking having it at all. And the climate figures mentioned in the video are old. Queretaro, like everywhere else, has seen a sizable increase in temperatures. This May was over 95 F most of the time.

I should also mention that although internet is cheap compared to the U.S., when it dies it takes FOREVER to be repaired. Ours was out for 7 days (along with 4 neighbors) before anyone even showed up (Telmex). Then that guy could not fix it and it took another 3 days for another guy to show up. He fixed it but it only lasted one day and was out again. Than another two days to get a satisfactory repair. So really about two weeks in all. There is inexcusable and that was with me and my neighbors complaining every day and taking trips to the local Telmex office.

But what bothers me most is the quality of construction. As the owner of a new home I can tell you I have had lots of problems with the tile popping off the floor, the roof leaking (in every room), door handles falling off, improperly installed electrical circuits, bad plumbing etc. Further, no matter what I am willing to pay, it is terribly difficult to find someone truly qualified to repair it who will do the work right.

Okay, so that is the bad news. What I love about Queretaro is the variety of things to do almost every week. Free concerts, very good symphony with very cheap tickets, a great night life, and a rapidly growing art scene. Also good museums and festivals. By far the best thing, though, are the people. Mexicans are just very tranquil and very nice people who know how to have a good time whether they have money or not. When you are lonely you can always to to centro for a drink, a bite to eat and just to people watch. As the video said, the city is very clean and safe and has a lot of history. And the city is beautiful. As the video also pointed out, Queretaro is in the center of lots of other cities and areas. You can be in amazing Mexico city in 4 hours on a very nice bus (big padded fully reclining seats with individual TVs etc.) for only $35 US. The wine country is here, San Miguel de Allende, Pena De Bernal, and Tequisquiapan are only an hour away by car. And, when you get there you can stay in a nice hotel for 1/2 of what it would cost in the U.S. (or less). So there are lots of things to like about Mexico and, specifically Queretaro, but you should not move here permanently thinking everything is bliss. It is not. We have not even discussed the bureaucracy etc. Still, everything considered, I am glad to call Mexico home. I have a lot more fun here than I had in the U.S.

So many interesting places that I didn’t know existed before I started vacationing in Mexico and watching videos like this.

I stayed in Queretaro the last 2 winters from September to January. I stayed in the center in Airbnbs. Last Summer the peso was 20 to 1 dollar now it is 17+. I enjoyed my stay there but Mexico now has a 17% tax on Airbnb and hotels plus the 3% sales tax. I stayed in the center which I recommend for people on a budget because many restaurants and grocery stores are in walking distance.
I enjoyed my stay there but It is getting too expensive for my budget. I will be going to cheaper destinations this coming Fall

The problem is that we so many Americans moving to México, rents, and the cost of living increases disproportionately to the locals' income. These expats or immigrants don't pay any state or federal tax. Fair?

Queretaro is my choice. I am looking at relocating soon to Mexico, and work my business remotely. I have travelled to many towns in the vicinity surrounding Mexico City, and Queretaro ticks all the boxes. I want to walk from my house to the tianguis, y comprar mi comestibles (trying my limited Spanish here LOL), come home with a couple of totes full of food for less than ten dollars. I love quiet neighborhoods, with no new development encroaching on my peaceful tranquil life. Queretaro is top of my list and it has an international airport. Viva Mexico!
