You should see this elegant ferry boat entering Kavala΄s port at 7-8 gail force using the same technique! Just amazing!!! Hats off, captain Diamantis!!!

If you look at the video: at 1:15 he's putting a twist on the ship - port screw is backing - mud is being pushed forward along the hull - while the starboard screw is going forward and the rudder is over to port, sucking the stern of the ship to starboard. At 0:33 there's a big splash by the port bow that looks to me like an anchor being dropped to give them something to pivot on, and/or to check the forward motion of the vessel - or they may have just lowered it to drag on the bottom to slow them up a bit, and to have half-way out Just In Case. At 2:20 you can begin to see some evidence of a bow thruster pushing the bow to port. And near the end of the video (4:50) we see that anchor coming back up into the hawsepipe as she gets underway again. So, nice job of mooring Mediterranean-style. Seems like they've done this a time or two, d'ya think? :-)
