SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule arrives at International Space Station

SpaceX delivered two astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) for NASA on Sunday, following up a historic liftoff with an equally smooth docking in yet another first for Elon Musk’s company.

With test pilots Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken poised to take over manual control if necessary, the SpaceX Dragon capsule pulled up to the station and docked automatically, no assistance needed.

The docking occurred just 19 hours after a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket blasted off Saturday afternoon from Kennedy Space Center, the nation’s first astronaut launch to orbit from home soil in nearly a decade.

For the people wondering why there is no stars :

Can you see the stars on daylight? No.
Why? Because light of the sun is so bright that you cannot see it.

If you watch closely, you can see the ISS is located in the illuminated part.

To give you an idea of the phenomenon :

Sun luminosity is 382 800 000 000 000 000 000 000 000 W
(incandescent light bulb luminosity is 75 W)
Distance from Earth is 150 000 000 km

Closest star luminosity is 22 968 000 000 000 000 000 000 W
Distance from Earth is 40 152 484 000 000 km

Watching the luminosity of this star while you are close to the sun without having something blocking its light (like the earth for example) would be like spotting the luminosity of an incandescent light bulb placed 2677 km away while facing 1250 spotlights placed in front of you at 10 m.

So that's why you can't see the stars.

Listening to them talking brought tears to my eyes. So much respect and happiness for 1 another. Away from all this drama on Earth.

take off was automatic, cruising was automatic, and docking was also the computer, no astronauts interaction.. now I understand why the huge screens in front of them, it is the in-flight entertainment system.

When the Russians were taking over Crimea and the US was opposing it, the head of the Roscosmos said maybe the US should use a trampoline to get to the spacestation implying they are willing to cut off the US to the ISS for political reasons. It was trashy.

Elon said yesterday "The trampoline works!"

Time for SpaceDev to step up, and offer some competition to Musk and SpaceX, by launching the Dream Chaser.

The Soyuz spacecraft flew to the ISS in 3 hours, and the SpaceX Crew Dragon in 19 hours.

Why fly so fast? Firstly, it will make flights cheaper - there will be no need for the work of several dozen specialists who do not crawl out for days from the Flight Control Center. In addition, it will benefit the astronauts - getting used to weightlessness is much better to endure in the spacious compartments of the ISS than in a cramped spacecraft, but even this is not the main thing. The main thing is that this method of flying will be useful in the near future, when new orbital stations appear. And if now cosmonauts have nowhere to wait for help, then in the near future it will be possible to create an emergency rocket, requiring only refueling and calculation. And within a few hours, specialists can arrive at the orbital station to provide assistance.

I hate how none of these milestones are even acknowledged on the news because of the protests.
