Jan Železný is often considered the greatest javelin thrower of all time. He holds the world record with a throw of 98.48 metres and won the Olympic gold medal in the event three times in a row.

He was 17cm away from being a four-in-a-row Olympic gold medalist in the javelin; took silver in the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988 literally inches behind Tapio Korjus. Probably one of the most, if not the most, dominant (olympic) athletes of all time, especially taking into consideration how brutal javelin is for the body and how difficult it is to have longevity as a consequence, and one of the best competitors.

Andreas Thorkildsen is the only other thrower - discounting athletes who competed a century or more ago - who has been able to repeat an olympic gold in the javelin, while Železný almost had four in a row.

Arm speed so fast you can't really properly observe it even at half the speed. We may never again witness an athlete in this sport like unto him.
