Carolyn Phillips: At the Center for Inclusive Design and Innovation, every day is Global Awareness Accessibility Day. We’re excited to be able to join our colleagues and our friends and designers and innovators from around the world to recognize this day and get more folks to be aware of the importance of accessibility.
John Rempel: It’s important that people realize the value of accessibility whether a person has a disability themselves or if you have a family member or friend that has a disability or a colleague because accessibility really impacts all aspects of our lives.
Norford Fahie: I still, to this day, remember one particular student that I had an interaction with, and we were instructing her on how to use some of the AT software that we provide and it was very rewarding to me to interact with this student and see the lightbulb literally go off in her mind as she was able to now participate and study her materials as she can and does and was able to do well in her classes.
Sam Peters: When you’re hosting or planning meetings for example, so when you have people that are coming to your space to visit and you’re hosting them you want to be aware of accessibility because you want to make sure that your room is accessible. So, anyone that’s using a wheelchair or a cane or any kind of assistive technology is able to navigate that room and that space.
John Rempel: Building accessibility from the ground up in their products and services makes life better for everyone whether it’s in their work environment, personal life, leisure. Greater accessibility makes us more productive and happy human beings.
Carolyn Phillips: So, I encourage you and everybody else to stop, recognize this Global Awareness Accessibility Day and then let’s keep moving. Don’t let it just be a day. Let it be a way of life.
