I grew up in Chippendale, sold newspapers at the dozen or more pubs there in the 1960s, including the Clare, went to Sydney Tech, had my first drink with a girl at the pub on the corner of Harris St and endured the stench of brewing hops at the old brewery. To be honest, it was the worst slum in Sydney and I was glad to escape to Melbourne in the early 1970s. Look at it now! I was well aware of the Central Park Mall development, but not Spice Alley. When lockdown finishes and I can get back to Sydney, Spice Alley will be the first place I go. Thank you for this.
