We have used a light sequence to wake up to for years, It feels like you woke up on your own instead of by an alarm. I'll be adding this to my ever growing project list. Thanks!

Thanks for this. I have a room in the center of my house with no windows. I was considering adding strip lights around the ceiling and mimicking the outside light levels throughout the day. This gives me some additional ideas.
Thanks for always finding ways to expand my endless to-do list!

I love this idea. It would be great if it could be added to WLED. I put up LEDs with a nodemcu around the ceiling of her room and this would be a good way to wake her up gently Saturday mornings for breakfast.

Great. Now every window in my house is going to have to have motorized curtains, a valance, and LED lighting on the back side of every valance! I’m going to go broke watching this channel! (But seriously, Rob, thanks for another super informative and well-produced video!)

Just discovered your channel. In college back in 1967 I began as a Secondary Education Physics major however we lacked an adequate number for Physics students to support the curriculum each term, so my minor Math became my new major. After graduating I entered USAF Officer Training then Pilot training in 1970. After 12 of active duty, I was cross trained as a Systems/ Software Engineer. After retiring I became a substitute math & science teacher. My wife taught H, S, Math & Computer Science for years. Now we have both retired.
The last few years we’ve lived on a farm. I ‘ e been experimenting with Raspberry Pi $ most recently Arduino Uno ; electronics & associated components. This is the first video I’ve watched on your YouTube but certainly not the last.😊😊

This looks like an awesome idea for a project. Nice work on the build and thanks for sharing the code!

@The Hook Up, cool guide! really neat project. But just FYI there is no such thing as a "truly white LED" the RGBW LEDs produce the W by emitting blue light which passes through a phosphor coating, some of the blue gets "converted" to yellow light during the process of passing through the coating and the blue+yellow light combine to make white.

Very nice Rob. Again, the level of detail you show lets others follow right along. Your teacher skills show. On a side note, how does Mrs The Hook Up respond to a bright room at that weee morning hour.... ;-)

Perfect! Was wondering how to work with RGBW strips and NodeMCU. Want to install some above and below kitchen cupboards. This should give me a good start. Thank you Rob!

Thanks for the video, I trying to mimic this project but I might in the deep end without my life jacket.
I am mostly stuck on the wiring portion and would appreciate any help you are willing to provide.

this could be more effective if combined with weight sensors in the bed. that way the computer could ignore commands to turn the lights off from any switch you can reach from the bed, making you get up and walk to the door to turn the lights off. then, as soon as you get back into bed, the lights and music come back on. rinse and repeat...

I am dying to do this! Problem is I do not understand half of what he said about how to do it because of the programming language. 😭

Btw really awesome videos, I have seen a lot of your videos and because of your video I am using Uniq smart switch in my house. 😂

Great use for addressable LEDs. Just wondering what my better half would think of a sun rise coming from over the book cases in our bedroom. The two windows are too "dinky" for such magnificence.

Can you post your NodeRed stuff regarding this device?
Or samples of MQTT commands that show how to use features?
Thanks !!!

love this project! took me a while to get it to work however - had to fiddle with the NEO_xxxx switches to initialize the strip correctly (right sequence of colors and such). I did notice one thing, and I should probably comment in the GitHub page, but I'll do it here as well - the code for "ambient" sets the red color, not the white - but the value used is the "whitelevel". Is this by design or just a misplaced value? Another thing for all tinkerers out there - make sure to use a common ground between the MCU and the LEDs and the external powersupply - I got some really funky results when the ground for the strip was different from the ground of the MCU (I had just connected the dataline from the MCU to the strips without joining the grounds).

Have you seen the color cycle on the ikea rgbw bulbs? They add a bit of pink in there that makes the sun rise/set look really nice.

Nice project, I admit it is tempting me !!! Wouldn’t it be nice to push the wake up alarm from iPhone (or Android) and let the lights do the job 1 or 2 minutes before? I doubt it would be possible from iOS clock app.

I have been wanting to do this project since I started up my Home Assistant server a year ago. I am putting this project in my son's room for his birthday. This will be the first flash I ever do. Could you provide me more guidance on the flash part? I have my .ino file ready and mqtt setup and successfully running in Home Assistant. I am an Automation Technician so the wiring, I/O parts come easy to me. I have everything wired up but need to flash the NodeMCU. Please help... ps... I'm taking a C++ class right now and I love that you are a science teacher! You teach my fav subjects!
