These California Brown Pelicans were diving into the water and feasting on a large bait ball of fish that were close to shore. It was an incredible feeding frenzy that went on for two days straight! I’m surprised I didn’t see any collisions! 😅
Have you ever noticed or wondered why Brown Pelicans rotate their bodies to the left when they dive? This rotation helps prevent injury to the esophagus and trachea, which are located on the right side of the bird's neck. If you look closely in this video, you can see each pelican turning to the left while diving. Pretty cool!
