Retrievers can kick off. Don’t mistake kindness for weakness.

I am not surprised. Growing up we had female golden retriever that was lethal if another dog got nasty. She was very friendly with people and other dogs until another dog got ugly. We lost her while she was trying to deliver pups. Missed that dog.

We had a golden retriever (female) rescue, she was super friendly to all dogs and people. I would never expect her to do any harm to any dog, even in defence. I remember one day taking her on a walk alone, I was then maybe 14, when we walked, a male weimaraner started barking at us, broke loose off his leash, charging at me. As Luna (my golden) was off leash and heeling next to me, she charged right at him, going full speed into him. They started to bite each other, I've never seen such a fight. The dog then got scared, as she bit him quite hard, and ran off to his owner. Luna came back to me, bleeding from the ear quite a lot. Never would expect that dog to protect me so fiercely. Her ear stayed torn in two from that attack, but no other injuries. Badass as hell

My 65 pound female Golden jumped from the floor onto the bed and launched herself through a screen on an open bedroom window. Chased the perpetrator down the driveway and bit him in the ass. She stood ground until he was apprehended. Note: She had numerous obedience and agility titles and was a certified Therapy dog who worked with children . RIP my “Sugar Magnolia.” 💗

My dog is the same way. A fully grown german shepherd came at us while we were walking, and my boy tobi that thing up until the owner got their dog. Tobi just pinned it to the ground and waited. The second they were being pulled off, tobi chilled out and let him go. No cuts or bite marks at all.

I've met a few aggressive golden retrievers. I'm glad that doggo protected its owner

We just got a Golden this year. 9 months now. He is very reserved and needs more socialization than our other dog. With us, he's a big 65lb baby and occasionally whines and rarely barks. He hid behind us around people and other dogs that were actually friendly. Then, out of nowhere, he bumps my wife out the way, barking and growling at a strange man walking to close at night. He ran up to our other dog when he felt something was wrong when barking through a fence at something. He now has a repeated pattern of stepping in between us (other dog included) and perceived danger/threats. Many people call him a sweetheart, so when we hear a deep viscious growl in protective mode, it actually shocks when it comes out, like, is this our dog? 😂

Never underestimate a loyal family pet, regardless of breed. When i was a kid MANY decades ago, i had a gentle Shetland sheepdog. My dad and his friend went in the house together, but came out by himself. The sheltie held him until my dad appeared. Absolutely refused to let the man move a muscle until my dad told her it was ok.

I lost my mal a little over two years ago. I’m still pretty heart broken, haven’t been able to pet another dog since. Maybe next summer I’ll be done grieving and get another pup. God bless you Patty, you were my best friend and protector for so long. I miss you every day.

Don't underestimate the retrievers. After all, they're used for hunting, and most dogs usually will defend raised correctly. They will respond when needed. 😮😊

Goldens are amazing companions, Teddy Bears to Protectors.

My sister has a golden retriever. The sweetest, most pampered and full of energy doggo ever. He's usually submissive towards other dogs but I noticed that when he senses that the other dog is becoming overly aggressive, he doesn't back down and remains very much attentive and ready to attack. There are definitely nuances when it comes to goldem retrievers.

Goldens are originally an incredibly tough hunting dog. They are now fluffy golden beauty queens, but under that pretty fur is a no nonsense working dog that handles their business. Love goldens❤

They are such kind dogs but are surprisingly good fighters too 😂😂❤

You won't see every Golden do this. It's out of character for them. That's what make this one so Boss!

To any other dog, you re their OWNER but to a Golden, you re their EVERYTHING.

Had a golden/lab cross as a child. I used to take it with me on my bike rides and it would trot happily along with my 9 year old self. One day two loose dogs began chasing me, we tried to outrun them but I couldn’t keep up. My dog turned around and stood his ground, ferociously barking and growling with all he had. The other two dogs (that were slightly smaller I don’t remember the breed) backed away and ran off thankfully without a fight. Those dogs are friendly but they will mess you up if they have to!

Goldies are the bestest of all the Bois. Utter sweethearts, wonderful with other animals, phenomenal with kids, and will utterly step up to the plate when needed.
