Pilot Officer, Roger Nicholas Franklin
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve

Died 16/01/1943
In the late 1924, Roger was born in Seven kings, Essex, with his mum Gladys Susie Franklin and father Richard James Franklin. Later on, the Franklin family moved to 26 Bramley Hill, Croydon Surrey.
Roger was sent to Bloxham school in Oxfordshire, this is a beautiful school and I reckon Roger would have had some great memories here. (please check this school out its truly amazing)
Roger enlisted early 1941 trained with 5 B.F.T.S (British Flying Training School) Clewiston Florida USA.
After learning to fly Roger advanced to 53 Operational Training Unit at RAF Llandow South Wales.
On the 16th July 1943 Pilot Officer Roger Franklin was flying his Spitfire P8396, alongside Sgt Kemp in his Spitfire X4067
both pilots where in formation flight, sergeant Kemp, aircraft collided with Roger franklin, the damage caused was deadly.
sergeant Kemp aircraft cut the tail off Roger aircraft and caused the spitfire to lose control and crashed at Cross farm St. Hilary, Glamorgan. Sadly, Roger was unable to escape and died he’s not buried at Llantwit Major Cemetery.
Luckily for sergeant Kemp, he manged to land his damaged spitfire back to RAF Llandow.
