As a general rule, most modern vehicles should utilise the ignition source, and every vehicle fitted with a Smart, or Temperature Compensating Alternator. This ensures your DCDC charger can reliably deliver the best possible charge to your auxiliary battery.

I have a 2011 hilux and the spare heated seat fuse under the dash on the passenger side appears to stay on when the vehicle is off aswell (causing the dctodc charger to stay on).Therefore does it have to be a spare/empty fuse or can I use a fuse that is already being used for something else and just put a smaller second fuse in the fuse tap?

Silly question: Does it matter what amperage the fuse is? Cancel that. Just scrolled down and found that it doesn't matter. Cheers for the good video. Mine's about to go in, either a great charging experience or an explosion. 😄

Thanks for these videos. Instead of running an ignition wire to front fusebox, can I tap the wire with a fuse to positive+ wire of 12v outlet to connect ignition wire (12 v outlet already in the back of the car boot, only works when the key is on) ? This is for a Jeep Grand Cherokee which have main battery under the drivers seat. So, I can run wires easily to 2nd battery. Then use ignition wire from 12V outlet (+wire) from the boot. Thanks

I've set this up as per your videos but the charger is getting power with ignition off. I've quadruple checked the power to the fuse I've used. It got late, so I'm going to try some other fuse spots tomorrow in case the one I've chosen is constant battery power. Anything else that it could be though??? Cheers Matt

Do you need the ignition cable in fixed voltage alternators such as a 1986 landcruiser? I don't think you need to but I don't understand the cut off mechanism within the DCDC

In my 2015 Land Rover Discovery 4, I have the old Kickass battery box with 120ah Battery and Projecta 25A dcdc it has worked fine for can you tell me why I would need to upgrade to one of these 3wire/ignition setups?

I found all fuses had power, but around 12v and connected to that, when car is running it would increase. Is this ok?
