My advice as a Dutch person; Book a hotel/bnb outside of Amsterdam. Make Amsterdam a day, and then enjoy cities outside of Amsterdam.

Amsterdam is worth it, but it is definitely not a good representation of the country. It is a tourist city. The Netherlands has a lot to offer and it's all a short train-ride away.
