My mother used to sing this to me when I was a child but for the life of me I couldn’t find it anywhere and now that I have it feels like I’ve unlocked a core memory.

Read 1Q84 a few days ago, watched A Streetcar Named Desire tonight, and am a Jojo fan. I feel fulfilled.

I read for Blanche Dubois from A Streetcar Named Desire so learning this song was a must. Coming back to it brings back many happy memories.

I'm 55 and don't recall hearing this cool tune before. It was playing at breakfast yesterday at the hotel I'm staying at. I was just down at the reception today to get some ice, and it was playing again. Of course I had to search for "Paper Moon" on YT. Damn it, it's actually legendary Ella Fitzgerald singing !! Had no idea, shame on me. I love her little improvisations between the male backround choir repeating the verses. Anyhows, this is now one of my favourite songs.

Say, it's only a paper moon
Sailing over a cardboard sea
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me
Yes, it's only a canvas sky
Hanging over a muslin tree
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me
Without your love
It's a honky tonk parade
Without your love
It's a melody played in a penny arcade
It's a Barnum and Bailey world
Just as phony as it can be
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me
Say, it's only a paper moon
Sailing over a cardboard sea
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me
Yes, it's only a canvas sky
Hanging over a muslin tree
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me
Without your love
It's a honky-tonk parade
Without your love
It's a melody played in a penny arcade
It's a Barnum and Bailey world
Just as phony as it can be
But it wouldn't be make-believe
If you believed in me
It's phony it's plain to see
How happy I would be
If you believed in me

Came here after reading 'A Streetcar Named Desire'. Listening to the tune makes me understand the dreamy vibe Blanche was giving off. Good song!

Came here after reading A Streetcar Named Desire(great play btw I definitely recommend it in whichever media form you prefer) in class thinking I'd finally unlocked the secret to discovering fandoms outside anime- imagine my surprise coming here to find the comments already infested with more of my kind lol

in the sky I see two moons. one large, the same one where Armstrong walked while the other is small and with a greenish color and follows the large one like a child follows his mother.
