Hats off to Debbie for singing live, instead of lip-synching. You can hear the record playing beneath her singing. But, the single version was cut down for time, because radio wasn't fond of playing songs that were beyond 4 minutes ("Tide" album version is 4:41).

It seems Debbie was used to singing the way it appears on the album, because the first time she repeats "number one", she mistakenly goes up, which is how it goes on the longer mix. But, on the single version, they shortened it and clearly Debbie forgot that.

Still, I love that she just went for it. So many of the acts that appeared on 'Solid Gold' just pantomimed. Debbie stuck her neck out and it was laudable!

They are an incredible band. So many great songs. One of the best drummers in rock but went mostly unrecognized as such. They came from punk, became New Wave and then helped form the sound that would become 80's pop.
