Curator's Talk: Landscapes for Richard Mayhew
This Month of Mayhew Lecture was presented by Faron Manuel, Curator and Foundation Director at Black Art In America.
Manuel notes that, “now nearing a century of life experience, Mayhew has been both an observer and contributor to America’s major art movements, leaving an indelible imprint on artists and art enthusiasts alike for future generations. Through his work Mayhew has revived a painting tradition that was losing relevance by bringing an innovative perspective to landscape painting—this invitational show was developed with that in mind.”
For this lecture, Manuel presented a scholarly essay, chronicaling Richard Mayhew’s extraordinary career spanning more than seven decades. Citing a number of Mayhew’s profoundly intimate works, Manuel will divulge the artist’s philosophies and creative sensibility—illuminating key works from his journey.
