Thomas Hobbes, Leviathan | The First and Second Laws of Nature | Philosophy Core Concepts

This is a video in my new Core Concepts series -- designed to provide students and lifelong learners a brief discussion focused on one main concept from a classic philosophical text and thinker.

This Core Concept video focuses on Thomas Hobbes masterwork, Leviathan, and specifically on his discussion of the first two laws of nature in chapter 14. Natural laws are general rules worked out by reason, forbidding human beings from doing things destructive to their lives and commanding them to do what will preserve their lives

My videos are used by students, lifelong learners, other professors, and professionals to learn more about topics, texts, and thinkers in philosophy, religious studies, literature, social-political theory, critical thinking, and communications. These include college and university classes, British A-levels preparation, and Indian civil service (IAS) examination preparation

Namaste sir and greetings from India. Great content and beautiful explanation. Just wanted to ask you quick question where most of the student like me get stuck:

1) How do we better our reading speed especially in philosophy since we need to read really critically with close observation of each word or lines it takes plenty of time considering the time restraint on our research project.

2) If we are to write our own philosophical essays what should be the key points or questions that we are to answer in writing the essay?

3) Just a personal question that is what do you prefer to use for writing I mean old school pen and paper or type things out on your computer ?

Thanks a lot for making philosophy easy to understand with your contents. It really means a lot to students like me. Thanks again

Thanks so much for all your amazing content! I'd love to see/hear your thoughts on the ideas of the unconscious (Freud, Jung, etc.), and how you think AI might impact/change humans' understanding of "correct" views on philosophy/morals.
