If you asked me a week ago to list the 15 biggest birds in the world, I'd have said 'Big Bird' and then gone blank. But here I am, one week later, armed with all the details of the largest birds in our beautiful natural world. Get your wings ready because we're flying high today! From the largest bird of prey in the rainforest to Earth's craziest creature, here are the 15 Biggest Birds in the World!

When I was a kid I went to a magnet school at the LA zoo to study animals, and we used to ditch class and party behind the aviary that held the zoo's harpy eagles. Those things are so freaking awesome up close its hard to believe that they're real, and not a museum exhibit of a prehistoric bird. They were like eagles bigger than Rottweilers with claws so big that they could palm a basketball. They were easily one of the most impressive animals that I've ever seen.

Ha, I nailed #1. When the video started I was thinking of my pick and bingo, the Wandering Albatross was it. But then I spent over 30 years in the Merchant Marine and am familiar with these birds.

When I was a child, our deep freezer broke down .. And there was plenty of fish we had in it .. So I went to the store and bought plenty of shelled sunflower seeds, shelled pecans, shelled peanuts, an wafers .. I also bought about six large aluminum foil platters .. I took all the raw fish and the sunflower seeds, pecans, peanuts and wafers, went in fiels where there was open area , and put all of the (what I called it) bird food, went back to the house, sat on porch to see what would happen next .. In about 20 minutes many birds flew in .. I counted about 2 large hawks, 4 eagles (2 bald eagles, I'm not so sure what the other two eagles were) .. And there were a few smaller birds .. There were all kinds of birds .. Later that evening as it began to get dark outside, 2 large owls flew in ..
I just wanted to know what type of birds would come, and how many ..

Great list, but why didn't you list the Emperor Penguin instead of the King Penguin? Emperor Penguin is the largest species of Penguin in the world.

My favorite is the shoebill! That bird is so awesome and beautiful! As far as seeing big birds, there’s a flock of Mexican vultures around here. They are huge and not afraid of humans. We walked passed them eating on a rat. They didn’t move, but we sure did!

Check out the Harpy eagle when he looks straight at camera, they have quite the intimidating stare, look at those eyes, sees right through me.

So I've shared my story before but here it goes.... swans are not evil!
I was in Ottawa visiting friends. Decided to take a muffin down to a near park/ waterway and came upon an area where small kayaks could go.
I saw two large swans with one (likely 2 week old) cygnet. So I was watching and they walked up the incline towards me. I was slightly concerned but i know better than to run, so i stood there. Dad stopped about 5 feet in front of me and up came mom. I fed her a bit of my muffin from my hand and then, they let the baby take a piece from my hand as well. It was magical. They then went back into the water.
The reality is that we have disrespected birds for so long they feel defensive against us.
I now have two muscovy ducks and my boy is a bigger threat to a human than any swan, but they are sweet, cuddly and lovely! All birds are. Yes...I'd also let a cassowary tear my jugular out to hug one. :)

Actually, domestic turkeys can fly. Just because it chooses not to does not mean it can't. I raise domestic turkeys and have had to fish them out of trees many times.
