You missed the point of the second story. He went to the restaurant bc his gf wanted to go, he knew in advance there wasn’t anything for him to eat. He went to essentially keep her company. NTA

5:20 : this 16 yr old girl is doing amazing especially compared to most kids her age. This guy's a cheap asshole. it's one thing to teach your kids responsibilities but it's another to completely expect them to survive on there own at 16 going to school and working a part time job on minimum wage. Most adults can't even do that! This is borderline neglect. no kid should be shamed for asking a parent for help once in a while. Smh

For the past pictures, OP is not the jerk at all. She was setting a boundary and her mom wouldn't respect it. Those pictures clearly make her uncomfortable and if her mom really loved her she would listen and take the pictures down.

Being poor isn’t an excuse to behave poorly. Breaking into a stranger’s home to throw a party and then acting shocked about having to pay for it might explain why they’re poor to begin with. They’re always paying for their poor choices, and perpetuating that onto their children. Lesson necessary!

5:08 I’m sorry but you can in no way compare being a picky eater and the airport thing. As a picky eater if my SO wants to go somewhere with me and they end up not haven’t food I want keeping them company while they eat shouldn’t be a big deal. It’s be weird if all you did was stare at the person while they ate but if I’m there to keep you company weather or not I’m eating shouldn’t change anything for you. if this person wasn’t eating because the restaurant was out of their budget would it still be rude . In both situations I can’t eat at the restaurant bc of something out of my control but I’d still want to spend time with my SO

Yeah that story about the wine was pretty stupid. What happened was the waiter screwed up, but then didn't want to admit it to the management, so he claimed that those people ordered it. He didn't want to take responsibility and admit his mistake, so he tried to put it on the customer. He doesn't deserve a tip. He deserves a big mess to clean up

That stepfather would be getting the boot! You don’t tell me how to spend MY money on MY 16yo. My 16 saves alot of her money, but I only expect her to pay for when she want to do stuff with friends, gas for her car and if she wants clothes outside or what I get her when we school clothes shop, summer clothes shot or get what she wants for Xmas. That’s her money and she is a child. People have a small window of time in their life where they get to be truly selfish and make it about themselves, this is her time. I want it to be great

How is the girl that lost weight a jerk??? Did you not listen to the mom belittling her out of jealousy? That alone makes the OP not a jerk, she is proud of the progress in her life and doesn’t want to be reminded of her past. The mom is doing all of that out of hate that the daughter is no longer obese like her.

I disagree with the opinion on the story at about 50 minutes, I think that was a time where mom needed to engage and initiate the talk about a costume for herself to both husband and kid. Being quietly hurt over it is awful but people aren’t mind readers give your partner an idea of where your at before the day comes

great job compiling these stories! they always spark interesting discussions. however, i can't help but feel like some of the judgments here seem a bit harsh. like, sometimes people just need a break, you know? it would be nice to see more understanding in the comments too.

The first story: why not try get some therapy? I think they most likely have some unresolved trauma which I can imagine is pretty common. OP gets to get over a fear and her son gets to keep the dog. Everyone wins!

OP's so scared of dogs then her idiot husband should have gotten an old enough puppy who was potty trained/house broken, but still young enough to grow up with the family and help OP with her fear, seeing a helpless, sweet and loving pupper.
