I am consistently impressed with how good this snare drum sounds in multiple tunings.

When you tune it high, it has fantastic articulation and attack that cuts through the mix.

On the other hand, when you start to tune it low, it keeps a lot of its attack while providing a deep and dry sound that fills the spaces when you play it.

That’s why I’m always torn between which tuning to keep this snare drum because it does it all well!!

It’s a good feeling knowing that a snare drum is versatile because it provides options when looking for the appropriate sound for the music.

And yet again, it’s always nice knowing when you grab a snare drum that it’s tuned to the sound that it does best.

These thoughts provide the question, does a snare drum need to be versatile, or can it be great at creating one sound? Also, what do you think is the most versatile snare drum of all time? Comment, let’s talk about it!

Anyway, have a wonderful day!! Love you guys! Stay Safe! Okay. Byeeeee. 🥁🤓👊🏻❤️✌🏻

Rogers Powertone is a pretty fantastic snare or the 70s Pearl COB snares.

I have a mapex sledgehammer snare that’s a limited edition now a days. Not only is that my first purchase of a snare, but it’s the best one I’ve played in my experience as a drummer. It’s a beast and it’s insanely versatile. Much love to all the other great snares from other brands🤘

I bought my supraphonic used on 1973. It was my go to until I got a Dial Tune a couple of years ago. For versatility, it's hard to beat being able to tune on the fly.

No idea man. I still use my first snare drum but ive recorded an album with a couple of expensive ones and i have to say, Ludwig Black Magic 8" and Supraphonic lm402 6x5" were really impressive

My 14x6.5 Tama g-maple (original, not SLP... Posers 😛) is pretty nice. It's got the thickness to be durable and work in a rock setting but has the wood tone.

That "versatile" thing came from the Acrolite, not the Supraphonic (and now that I write this, I'm noticing its actually a Premier snare drum we're watching in the video). Back in the days when you could trade a nice Acro for a ham sandwich, they were altered in any way possible to get the sound the producer needed for the particular song they were recording and no one cared what they did to the snare drum to get that sound, because they were cheap and a dime a dozen. These days, its a little different story, but basically, in my experience, they all work. You hit the drum, it goes pop, the track gets recorded.
I've recorded with some pretty cheap shit and it came out sounding like a million bucks.
So don't worry so much about "versatility". Just play the drums.
