UPDATE: Hendrick Motorsports will appeal the penalty, saying the louvers they were provided did not meet specs and were not actually used in the race. They also say they received inconsistent communication from NASCAR relating to the louvers.

Do think their appeal will be successful?

everyone is flabbergasted by the massive Hendrick penalty…
…but none of y’all are talking about how *we all have more points than Justin Haley now* 💀

Chase Elliott hasn't raced in 2 races and still gained 3 spots XD

I feel like Kaulig is going to be hurt by this much more than Hendrick.

Cody Ware is now higher than most of them

I mean, it’s in line with what they did to RFK. Hitting Justin Haley with the same thing though, Jesus. He’s already dead, leave him alone.

Everyone is acting like the exact same penalty wasn’t given to RFK last year. Don’t modify single source parts.

The main one I'm worried about is Bowman. He was literally leading the points just on consistency, and now this could have ruined his playoff hopes unless he wins. I'm hoping Hendrick's appeal gets approved, because they have just been great, including at Vegas a couple of weeks ago.

You've also gotta feel bad for Justin Haley. I have never seen a driver with -40 points.

Nascar needs to be more timely and transparent on these charges. What’s wrong with telling us what they have found.

As a massive HMS fan, this totally sucks. There’s no hiding from it, period. I wonder how this gets through the shop with everyone knowing the fines. Makes no sense with all the speed and talent they have. Did RFK parts make it in the race? Will the appeal change things because it was not used in the race? I know I’ll get throttled for asking but I think it’s a fair question. I mean, if this part was not going to do that much why touch it, and it’s so visible everyone can see it! Ugh sorry just pissed as a fan that this happened. If they did it on purpose then why not just try it on one car? Why all four? I mean, really. Well I guess I’ll start looking at the points sometime in June and see where then are at that point. Enjoy the rest of the season Nascar fans!

This sucks as a bowman fan, I think it's a bit ridiculous since they didn't even race with it, I hope at least the points get given back

NASCAR is doing everything it can think of to keep Hendrick from winning. New car design, quick cautions, and bogus penalties. It's not going to work, NASCAR.

Rick Hendrick will feel every bit of that half-a-million dollars.

Hate that Denny got penalized points drivers should be allowed to be honest not good for the sport

I honestly don't get why or how HMS came to this situation? Did they think Nascar would treat them differently, or thought the modification was lawful? Beats me! that's why I believe fans deserve to know more about this and past severe penalties.

When you're running that much faster than the whole field, and it's consistent in all 4 cars, the rules folks are going to go over everything with a fine toothed comb...kinda bad on Hendrick to get caught on something like this, since it's so obvious. I know they say NASCAR didn't communicate clearly (no doubt they're right about that), but they have been pretty consistent about hammering any team that makes any changes to parts.

The rule is clear and has been from the very beginning. You do NOT modify in any way any single source spec part NO MATTER WHAT! It doesn't matter if there is in your mind some good reason to do it, you DON'T do it. It's cracked but easily repaired? Throw it away and get a new one, don't fix it. It's a little out of spec but two swipes with a file can fix it? Don't to it, return to the manufacturer in exchange for new one. A hole is a little to small? Don't even think of drilling it out (except in some instances where the rules actually do allow that but those are clearly spelled out). Just don't do it, the rule is clear. You're going to have to find those little advantages elsewhere. Still plenty of room to play in the engine and setup departments.

The thing everyone seems to overlook is that the Next Gen car was made from parts supplied by the lowerst bidder. Good quality and low price rarely go together.

"The entire complexion of this season has changed", but has it?

They can still win a race and with the top 30 rule being gone, qualify for the playoffs... Where the points reset anyway.

It has no effects in my opinion.

There Is Nothing More Obvious Over The Past 20yrs. Of NASCAR That If You Are A Ford Team, Driver, Organization, Or Fan You Are Quietly Shunned.
The Rule Packages Need To Be Done Over Winter Break Before The Up And Comming NASCAR Season.
Once The Packages Are Finalized Then They Need To Remain In Place.
NASCAR Should Never Go Against There Own Seasonal Rules If A Team, Driver, Or Manufacturer Do Better By Changing The Rules To There Partisan Discretions On A Week By Week Basis.
