i am trying to create a simple lens geometry using CAD
the only formula i used is Snell's formula, using equation in Solidworks i created the refracted light path. also using MathCAD the numbers checked out to 8 decimals with Solidworks.
even with the simplest geometry a plano convex lens, when i draw 2 parallel lines going thru the flat surface and exiting thru the spherical one, the 2 refracted lights do not converge on the principal axis.
i wish there is an easier way to describe it, however all studies assume all parallel rays to central axis go to the focal point. when i build it geometrically using Snell's law i found out this is not the case. i double checked all the geometries and used all kind of relations to no avail.
any help would be appreciated

Thank you so much for your videos on this. I have a plano convex thick lens that is 2in thick with a .75 r lens. the flat side rests on a surface and the lens side faces the eye. I am trying to figure out the amount that the image is enlarged at a specific point.

Your videos are fantastic. Thanks very much for your great work. I have a question regarding a lighting system. I am using an LED as my light source, and a plano convex lens and Fresnel lens for distributing light on detector. Unfortunately, there is a shift of illumination area from center of detector because of tolerances of system. I wanted to ask how can I shift the principal plane of system forward in order to increase distribution area? Your help is appreciated in advance.
