So in the new canon Republic is only 1000 years old? In Legends/EU Republic was 25 000 years old. Didn't Obi Wan stated in "The New Hope" that Jedi Order kept peace in the galaxy thousands of years? Either that's acontradiction or Jedi Order predates Republic.

Quick question, in Phantom Menace, Princess Amidala called out the current Supreme Chancellor & they switched to Palpatine. Can one person just do that or does there need to be a certain amount of people who want to elect a new Chancellor?

In some of the Republic-era materials they mention something about "The Old Republic". Is that the same, or different than this one?

I think the politics of the current era would be summed up in probably one conversation in the force awakens like it was done in a new hope on the death star; when tarkin announced that the whole senate has been disbanded and so on. I really doubt we'd see any senate meetings or anything like that. I hav mixed feelings abt this cause the politics of star wars always sparked my interest. I'm not saying the Senate meetings were at all interesting in the prequels but the underlying theme of corrupt power was always really really interesting. really hope they aren't just leaving the politics for the novels alone. would be pretty amazing if we get to see an insight in to how the new republic is Doin as well as Wats been done to keep peace and order with the first order right outside their doorstep.
