First flight success for Gripen E

At 10:32 on Thursday June 15, Gripen E took off on its maiden flight, flown by a Saab test pilot. The aircraft (designation 39-8) left from Saab’s airfield in Linköping, Sweden and flew over the eastern parts of Östergötland for 40 minutes. During the flight, the aircraft carried out a number of actions to demonstrate various test criteria including the retracting and extending of the landing gear.

When the test pilot gets emotional by doing the maiden flight of the Gripen E, even knowing the previous version (C/D), you may have an idea on how awesome this machine is. I really hope that our relationship with Sweden people doesn't stop after this program ends. They are friendly and professional, with an enthusiasm that only wing heads like us are known for.

1:55 (The man to the right). One of the wealthiest and most influential man in Sweden, Mr Marcus Wallenberg, chairman of the board in SAAB Group. A great industrial manager. The Wallenberg family founded SAAB back in 1937. Their company Investor AB still owns the biggest part of SAAB Group. Without the Wallenberg family, Sweden would not have been the huge high tech success it is today.
