The official audio of Ray Charles' "America The Beautiful" from the TRUE GENIUS boxset

While many artists have recorded “America The Beautiful”, perhaps the most famous rendition is that by the great Ray Charles. Originally recoded as part of his 1972 album A Message To The People, Charles’ soulful version peaked at #98 on the US R&B Chart in 1976, while the United States celebrated its bicentennial. Subsequently, it has been traditionally played on New Year's Eve in Times Square following the ball drop.

In celebration of Ray Charles’ 90th birthday, Tangerine Records, the label he founded in 1962, is proud to announce the release of “True Genius” the ultimate Ray Charles collection. Featuring 90 of his greatest songs and most important recordings of his legendary career, this newly remastered set includes all of his biggest hits.

Listen to the TRUE GENIUS box:

Follow Ray Charles...

LYRICS:

Oh beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife
Who more than self, their country loved
And mercy more than life
America, America may God thy gold refine
'Til all success be nobleness
And every gain divined
And you know when I was in school
We used to sing it something like this, listen here
Oh beautiful, for spacious skies
For amber waves of grain
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain
But now wait a minute, I'm talking about
America, sweet America
You know, God done shed his grace on thee
He crowned thy good, yes he did, in brotherhood
From sea to shining sea
You know, I wish I had somebody to help me sing this
(America, America, God shed his grace on thee)
America, I love you America, you see
My God he done shed his grace on thee
And you oughta love him for it
'Cause he, he, he, he crowned thy good
He told me he would, with brotherhood
(From sea to shining Sea)
Oh Lord, oh Lord, I thank you Lord
(Shining sea)

A black blind man born in the poor south. If he can love this country like this, than all of us should be able to. We are special, don't let anyone tell you different.

“There was one night game a year. On the 4th of July, the whole sky would light up giving us just enough light for a game.

We played our best because I guess we felt like the big leaguers under the lights of some great stadium. Benny felt like that, we all know he was going to bigger and better games. Because when we watch those lights like regular kids, he was there to call us back.

See for us, baseball was a game. But for Benjamin Franklin Rodriguez, baseball was life.

My father recently passed away and he loved Ray Charles, especially this song. I'm going to play it at my dad's service. My dad was a veteran who loved his country.

This 4th of July I’m gonna have this song on repeat through my big ass speaker while I blow fireworks in my yard. I’ll make sure the whole block listens 🎉
