The history of the areas around the Black Sea has always been one of my favorites.
The Scythian police man, is a figure which is a staple of classic greek comedies.

A beautiful history lesson, Anna, with examples of beautiful artifacts and illustrations; a simple-but-beautiful studio filming scene: your black clothing stood out against the grey wall, illuminated by your golden neck-piece, visage and blond hair which matched the colour of the dry rushes placed on either side in the background, while from the corner the mirror reminded us that we always need to reflect upon history & culture. Bravo, O strong-hearted woman, daughter of ancient warriors!

The Ala Primae Sarmatarum was a unit of Sarmatians who garrisoned Hadrians wall in the North of England around 200 AD. Even in those days, they were good fighters.

I love ancient history too, how the people lived, how they communicated with other civilisations, how aware they were about the world. There are still many mysteries that are waiting for us to unveil, even here in Europe. Thracians, Scythians, Celts, Picts, Etruscans... Thank you Anna for the video 👍

What an interesting history lesson. Thank You Anna. The Scthians remind me of the ancient Egyptians, being buried with what they would need in the afterlife. Their jewelry was beautiful. The strenghth of the Ukranian women surely does come from the ancient Amazonca women.

The Ossetians are the last speakers of Scythian/Sarmatian descendant languages. The studies on their language and folktales give a lot of insight into how their ancestors lived.

Great history lesson Anna. Thank you. I studied medieval art in college, which included late Roman jewelry, but I not Scythian. That pectoral is stunning. It must have belonged to a princess or someone very powerful. I am quicky learning more about Ukraine than I knew about England and France. By the way, King Arthur is widely regarded as a mythical figure.

This "Discover Ukraine" series is going to be so great. You know, I am a child of the Cold War when most history of the nations making up the USSR was largely unavailable to us here in America. After the Soviet Union collapsed, I genuinely looked forward to learning more about these nations and their histories and cultures. This desire has come true in certain cases when I traveled to former Soviet states like Kyrgyzstan or Uzbekistan or Ukraine.

The Scythians, Sarmatians, and even the Cossacks were all cultures which seemed fascinating to me but were not really taught about here in American schools since we were somewhat isolated from Eastern European academia. Ukraine's quest to integrate with the West and become an open, democratic society has really opened up some of these unknown histories to me.

There was a time when I thought I might find as much interest in Russian history, too. But now I find that so much of what Russia calls its history has actually been assimilated from the states it conquered. They still lie, misrepresent or twist aspects of their culture to fit the glorious narrative of the Kremlin. It's like the Iron Curtain never fell for them. And I have lost my patience waiting for them to be honest about their history.

So thank you, Anna, for this great new series. I will look forward to more episodes! Пізнаймо Україну!

Thanks Anna, excellent video. I had been wondering about the people who lived around now Ukraine before the Vikings. I enjoy learning about from whom we are descended.

The Sarmartians provided the Romans with auxiliary forces for quite some time during the Imperial period. They were renowned cavalry and one of the explanations for King Arthur, says he was a leader of the Sarmatian auxiliary in the Roman Legion stationed in the Roman province of Brittania.

This was fascinating. I am half Ukrainian and my grandparents did not ever want to talk about the past. Your videos are so good. Every day I learn more. 💛💙🇺🇦💪

Anna, Did you know Scythian, Sarmations (ponounces Sarmashians), Alans, Ossetians, Persians are all Iranian tribes. For centuries many Iranian tribes who left Europe had lived and settled in where today is southern Ukraine and Russia, mainly in Pontic stepps before they went through and settled in cacuses and where today is Iran. Slava Ukraini - From Iran

Today was Fathers Day here in the U.S. and I was thinking how lovingly you have spoke of your father. I'm sure he would be very proud of what your doing and have accomplished.
Slava Ukraini!

I'm SO happy you decided to do this video!! I think Scythians are one of the most interesting ancient peoples anywhere, and certainly some of the widest traveled and most culturally influential across huge swaths of Europe and Asia. And a people that, at least in their early history (before the Huns) were never afraid of strong women or LGBT people.

Bravo Anna! This Celtic-Frisian, Greco-Carthaginian Triocalan holds his hands out in loving friendship to sons and daughters of the Scythian Sarmatians! I'm so glad that the treasures of ancient Ukraine are being returned to their mother country (beautiful treasures as they all are).💛💙
