Song of the Mamuna Tribe of South Papua

I'm not sure when, but recently a YouTuber named Drew Binsky visited Papua New Guinea in search of the remote civilizations in the deep jungle. According to the internets - Wiki, mostly - the tribes in this jungle have extremely infrequent contact with the outside world. Up until the late 1970's, they have zero contact - for over 65,000 years. I'm not entirely sure how accurate all that is, but that's the story I've learned so far.

I didn't learn any of that until my wife sent me what is the second half of the video above.

Drew Binsky stayed with the Mamuna Tribe for two days and made a half-hour long documentary about his experience getting there, meeting them, and what their world is like:

He captured this moment in video, thank God. On it's own, it is beautiful.

Then, a fella named Daniel Hanson took this clip and harmonized it to make it other-worldly, and it went viral.

I wanted the story behind it, the original video. I'm very glad Sara sent it to me and I went digging. Belting this out is very cathartic.

There's conjecture as to it's translation, in fact, I've only seen one internet comment with an English translation - whether it's accurate at all is suspect, and really, not relevant.

It’s beautiful how something I’ve never heard before from a completely different culture to my own can bring me to tears

“Day by day we walk on,
Our feet pressing
The same earth
Our fathers and our fathers’
fathers
Walked day by day,
While they walked on.
Day by day we walk on,
Hush, little ones,
Don’t tell the earth
We love her yet.
We will sleep in her soon
enough,
But for now we walk on.”
Song of the Manuna Tribe (according to Google)

This is so beautiful!!! It moves me to tears at times. These people know more about the earth and how to use its resources than the common person on the street. No cars, no machines, just pure nature. Really cool.

0:11 I don't say this a lot, but that note sent a chill through my body. I already thought it was beautiful, but that switch showed some amazing skill

There's something so primal yet so comforting about this song. It feels like going back in time back where humanity just started and meeting our most distant ancestors of the human race, when we were all one. What a meeting that would be, to show them how far we've made it thanks to their sacrifices 🥲.

Humanity is beautiful — if only many who have forgotten would remember this music and never harm their brothers - we always have a choice

someone needs to go there and record more of these songs, could listen to stuff like that as sleep aid.

This music invokes something in us as humans. These people still live the same way their ancestors did thousands of years ago. It's like our brains recognize those tunes like a call-back to our primitive eras, so listening to this does something to our souls.

These two guys from a remote tribe expressed more musicality in 25 seconds than many pop artists in their entire life.

I have traveled the world for a minimum of 6 month straight every year since 1998... Not only to popular places but really trying to find new and pure places.. Ive been sitting in villages where everyone sings at night infront of a fire and it really reminds me alot about what we se in this video.. People like them arent as broken as you and me (probably) they are so pure and they dont know what mocing or teasing is.. Shame??? nope, just pure love
