Rachel -And this is to all our dear friends who keep watching our videos. Thank you for liking and sharing our videos. Thank you for being a part of our journey
Pip- Whats so special about the day?
Rachel - Pip, today is the thanksgiving day, do you where did it start
Pip- Oh yes…the thanksgiving day Thanks for reminding me Rachel. As I have read the tradition of Thanksgiving started in Plymouth.
Rachel - Yes. Do you know what is thanksgiving all about
Pip- Well thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for all our blessings from the past year
Rachel - Absolutely, thanksgiving is a time to be thankful to our parents teachers, friends, family and loved ones.
Pip- Rachel, how did the festival start?
Rachel - As the legend has it, in the year 1620, a group of pilgrims came to America in a ship called the Mayflower.
The pilgrims made their way across the Atlantic Ocean and reached a place called Plymouth, the present-day Massachusetts.
It was winters when they arrived
Pip- Oh so how did they manage at a new land, no shelter, no food.
Rachel - Well life at Plymouth was very difficult, until an American named Squanto came for their help.
Pip - Squanto? Who was he
Rachel - Squanto was a native American who became the guide of the pilgrim settlers in Plymouth and helped them with farming and making shelters
With the help of Squanto, the pilgrims got the first successful harvest.
Pip- First successful harvest, after many days of hardwork. Wow, so did they celebrate?
Rachel - Yes , the success of the harvest was celebrated in 1621 with a grand feast. But celebrations are great when we have people around us. So the pilgrims invited the Wampanoag Native Americans and their leader Masasoi along with Squanto to celebrate the first harvest.
Pip- Wow that must have been a day of fun.
Rachel - Well, it was three days of celebration with good feast, hunting and entertainment to respect the hard work and the first harvest of the pilgrims.
Pip- And turkeys must have been a part of the feast platter.
Rachel - You would be surprised Pip, but turkeys and pumpkins were not a part of the first feast platter.
Rachel - But do you know how many turkeys are eaten on thanksgiving every year in the United States?
Pip - Yeah, about 46 million, I read that on the internet.
Rachel - Yes, and that’s just not it, about 50 million pumpkin pies are eaten every year on Thanksgiving in the United States.
Pip - What are the other popular dishes on Thanksgiving?
Rachel -Oh it’s a delicious layout of sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing.
Pip- Hey friends what’s your favourite meal for the thanksgiving? Comment below we would like to hear from you.
So that’s how the festival of thanksgiving began
Rachel - Well, in a way yes, but the pilgrims didn’t really think of it as a festival, but they celebrated the harvest every November.
Rachel - But in 1789, President George Washington announced the first ever National Thanksgiving Holiday on 26th November. In 1863, amidst the civil war in the United States, President Abraham Lincoln announced that the nation would celebrate thanksgiving every year on the last Thursday of November.
Pip- That’s an interesting story on thanksgiving
Rachel - So, friends, this thanksgiving do remember to give thanks to everyone around you.
And enjoy good food.

Rachel -We will be back soon with an inspiring story of a great scientist.
See you soon
