Can we talk about how crazy it is that The Substance is going to (very likely) be an Oscar contender ( complimentary). Even for the other horror movies nominated for best picture, I think this is is easily the most batshit, and I’m hereeee for it. F genre bias, if a film’s fantastic, then it’s fantastic, and that should be the only factor

The fact that Dune: Part 2 isn’t blowing every other film out of the water this awards season is just one more symptom of the out-of-touch nature of the movie industry. Everyone knows cinema is in worse shape than it should be.

Great art has staying power, and only one film this year is immortal.

We have the same 10. I'm fairly confident we've got this correct, Austin 👌 It's really a shame that Sing Sing hasn't been getting as much love from the awards crowd as it deserves. Honestly, as long as Denis Villeneuve walks away with Best Director I will be happy. If not, I will be riding a sandworm straight to the Academy

Dune Part 2 not being a frontrunner for Picture and Director is INSANE! I'm not even saying it has to win, but to not be in the winning conversation even is wild!
This trend will not age well down the line. 2025 Oscars will always be the one where the industry let Dune down

Those are the ten I have Austin right now. I will be paying close attention to the PGA Top 10 when it comes out & the BAFTA nominations to solidify things. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

I'm worried about Sing Sing and Clarence Macklin. I haven't managed to watch all the other contenders yet but it's my favourite so far, and I don't really see any of the others overtaking it for me personally.

Yeah your Best Picture ten is the same as mine.

I’d lower The Substance further down the list to #9 as it could be knocked out due to it being a well body horror film.

And I think it’s only a very small minority backlashing against Anora. Which is why I still give it the edge to be the current frontrunner. That could change when I’m actually able to watch The Brutalist.

Jesse Eisenberg is star, writer, producer for A Real Pain. He's in for screenplay. But I don't think he's a big enough name to get a 2nd nod for Best Picture.
