This scientific device created by French scientists Leon Foucault aimed to demonstrate the earth's rotation. It was introduced in 1851 and was the first experiment to give simple, direct evidence of the Earth's rotation.
Foucault pendulums today are popular displays in science museums, here in the Museum of Natural Science in Houston, Texas.

Le pendule de Foucault est un dispositif experimental conçu pour mettre en evidence la rotation de la terre par rapport a une référentiel galiléen.

Incorrect! It takes MORE than 24 hours for the swing of the pendulum to travel in a full circle. That is because, at each latitude, the Earth's spin only partly causes a twisting motion of the Earth. At the Equator the ground twists neither clockwise nor counter-clockwise and the pendulum swing would NEVER change direction. The number of hours needed is 24 divided by the sine of your latitude, which is always higher than 24 hours.

Those are so cool. I love that science and also how beautiful is was made. Thanks Anne!

My question is what is keeping the Pendulum In Motion in what keeps airflow disturbances from upsetting the ark along with about a dozen other issues that are happening to distort this display.. .

Why does it need magnets??
Why do they push it to get it started?

Looking down, visitors would see a symmetrical hollow brass bob weighing about 240 pounds and shaped like an inverted teardrop. As it moved back and forth—facilitated by an electromagnetic push to keep it continuously swinging despite air resistance and vibrations in the cable—it would knock down inch-or-so-high pins standing at fixed points along the circumference of a small circle. Over time, viewers could see the direction of the pendulum’s swing change, implying that the Earth was rotating beneath them.

why if we hang a rope it stays still and this is moving?... I dont undertand... it because of the lenght?

If the pendulum is swung in the direction of rotation. What would cause it to move clockwise or counter clockwise?

So this uses a magnet... Does this take into consideration the electromagnetic field, earths torodial field? Also Is this method using the actual geographic North Pole location? Or the magnetic north pole location which changes yearly and is somewhere in siberia currently?

Slowly rotates? 1000 mph is not slow. That's 66.6 miles a second!!!
Not to mention the 666000 miles and hour the earth is traveling.
At those speeds I always wonder why the pendulum doesn't point in the opposite direction of the rotation? Like it would if you held a yoyo and spun in a circle.

this movement has nothing to do with the earthrotation

Dear, please, would it be possible to ask a colleague or someone with a better pronunciation to do the narrative…?
No offense, & everyone commends the effort, but yes, it is very hard to understand…
Sorry about that…

This only proves the flat Earth is rotating as a disk :)
