The Darkness is one of the most mysterious and deadly creatures in all of Fear and Hunger. Having been summoned by the New God Wizard, Nas'hrah, in your fight against him in the Blood Pits area, you can't harm the Beast, and after 4 turns he will reach the party resulting in a game over.
All we know about the Darkness is it's a menacing presence whose breath has the essence of death. Nas'hrah most likely learned to summon the creature from his time in the Eastern Sanctuaries or from becoming a New God.
