Join me for a walk around the town centre of Castleford, a place full of history and one of Yorkshire's most underrated towns. Dating back almost 2,000 years to the Roman era, Castleford has been through so much over its history, becoming a centre for glass, coal and clay production in the Industrial Revolution.

On our walk around Castleford town centre, we pass a number of interesting landmarks, including the Millennium Footbridge, The Glass Blower Pub, Christ Church, Carlton Street, Castleford Market Hall, the Old Market Hall, Carlton Lanes Shopping Centre, Tickle Cock Bridge, Castleford Picture House, Albion Place Picture House and All Saints' Church.

A special mention to the following sites which really helped me out in discovering and researching the fascinating history of Castleford:

Great to see how it's all changed so Much and this video does show this in detail here . I would like some day to return there if possible to relive the memory of it all. Sadly old and living in care in York now I doubt I will be able to do so unless driven by car !!!

I actually live in Castleford and really enjoyed this video and the information you provided. It's always good to learn more historical knowledge about a place.
The quality is amazing and really makes the town look a little more vibrant than it tends to be in real life. 😆

Great video, love all the history to Castleford. Unfortunately it's nowhere near as nice as it was 20 years ago, it's really gone downhill. The markets used to be amazing, a proper outdoor market used to be out the back of Carlton Lanes. There used to be decent pubs too, you could go on a proper pub crawl from one end of the town to the other, and then have a boogie in one of the nightclubs, the majority of them are gone now. Full of empty shops and crackheads now unfortunately.

The so lovely Castleford I remember in the seventies was indeed a great place to live then. We had the New Star Cinema and The Albion Cinema to go to now both gone. The old indoor market and outside was a good shopping place and going shopping to G.T.Smiths supermarket was a nice experience. Much change and altered to suit today's living is not for me but I will always like and love the place I grew up in and old Castleford remains true in my heart and memories.

But... but... but... you walked straight past Queen's Mill, surely one of the highlights of Cas', and didn't even give it a mention...

I love the name of that bridge. Once in York, a tour guide told us the original name of Grape Lane. Seems there are others by that name in other cities in England. Like you, I won't get into the details, but Wikipedia has the explanation for the original non-PC version.
