How To Install a U-Shaped Midea Window Air Conditioner

The u-shaped design enables the compressor to be outside and the air handler inside... in other words it's super quiet. Because of the smart inverter it's also very energy efficient. Another nice aspect is how this design provides more window view and light coming in, and if you want you can even open the window once installed. We're adding this AC as part of an emergency preparedness plan to be ready for a power outage since it doesn't use much power.

I have not seen a window ac with the variable speed like a mini split. That is a nice feature. I can appreciate having the multiple zones instead of cooling the entire house down. I like a cold bedroom but there is no need to chill the rest of the house.

I just installed one exactly like this (Midea 8000btu). I love it! It's very quiet and the cooling is fantastic. This is my second smart AC and I'll never go back to a non-smart AC. Great video BTW. Very thorough. I wish you had made it a week ago LOL

@Darbin Orvar ... You put the sticky foam on the side foam backward. The part that wraps up (2") and to/on the bottom, the 2" side is supposed to be on the unit side, not the window side. TIPS: Move the unit out/back enough, so the window just barely misses touching the unit. That will allow more room/fit for a custom-made screen (if one has to be made). Depending on the window, it may be more cosmetically pleasing and may seal better, to buy 1"/2" sticky foam to put on the bottom of the window, instead of the supplied (flat) foam.

There is a new solar mini-split that is excellent. Can't remember the name. Maybe you are familiar with it?

I seen an n shaped unit as on this the Old House channel not to long ago.
It's designed so that the external compressor and internal fan unit, sit below the window frame on either side of the wall.

A better solution for locking the window would be a 1 inch dowel rod that can be removed in case an emergency evacuation situation arises.

Thanks for the informative, easy to understand, and accurate instructional video. The Midea U-Shaped Window Air Conditioners are wonderful appliances. But the printed and video instructions are very confusing, IMO. Yours are not. :)

This is timely as my AC is dying. It works but I have to unplug it to turn it off and it's stuck where it is as far as modes and settings go. For a while only the remote worked but not the panel buttons. I might end up with one of these.

Mine arrives in a few days. Do you think it is necessary to screw the bracket into the window frame if installing on a third floor where there is no risk of breaking in?

my window is 46" long the bracket is to short need a video make to size the window length is overside than 36#

I think that the MrCool Split AC unit is a much better option. This one is very complicated and seems quite heath robinson.
