My homemade adjustable work rest for my 2X72 grinder is proving to be pretty stinking rad.

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:

Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.

Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

As a luthier and product designer that has built and used numerous jigs, templates, and fixtures over the years, the thing to remember is that they are all for accuracy, not for speed. If they are accurate every time ... you're golden. Speed is a side benefit, since you no longer have to measure. The time it takes to make good jigs, templates, and fixtures will easily make up for the time in making if they do repeatable processes you do a lot.

I love this channel. Definitely the best knives on the net. I need to order one of those sexy sanding blocks. Keep up the great work Jeremy.

I like watching your journey into learning all these things and fine tuning everything as you grow man. I appreciate all the info and honesty on your videos. As a self taught/youtube student of knife making, you are a mentor of sorts to me. Also, I think that may be my sanding block you're mailing, woohoo. lol

Get your VFD to run in reverse which the kbac27 will do with a switch and the proper programming then it wouldn’t be upside down and the weight could be resting on the bar

Nice video. Tormek have another jig for thin (kitchen) knifes that works really well. Basically it has a wider grip.

Those Father Hunters are my favourite knives that you make; the one with the koa scales that featured in the build video was just beautiful.

Good information Jeremy. This is somewhat an old video now. I am not sure if you made any updates/modifications to the Tormek jig, but if you remove that black plastic guide thing and drill a let's say 1/4 inch hole and install a round stock, and use that rod as a guide... that would help with the bevel inconsistency. Hope this makes sense.

I use the tormek and have the same grinder as you. This is very exciting.

I think I'll make one for myself as well. I do have the OBM work table with the ball joint, but I was never really happy with how much the table moved when I used it so I just used my heavy welded table instead.
I also have a separate 1.5" slot for the table, so this rest will get its own tool arm!

Nice! If you wanted to do a convex edge, would it be possible to swing the bar up, so the bar is physically located above the grinder, and sharpen down onto the top "slack" part of your grinder? The main difference would be going from "edge trailing" to "edge leading". But if I remember correctly the tormek sharpener is "edge leading" anyway. I guess it would be just as easy to remove your platen and get a slack belt that way too. I'm just trying to think of additional uses for your setup... It's SO nice!

Just threw a couple photos on your Facebook page showing you what I made for my tool rest holder solid as a rock and easy on and off

Looks really great. Have you come up with an easy way to set the table perpendicular or other fixed angles to the platten yet?
This thing is so adjustable which is cool but what if you often grind at a certain angle?

Jeremy, not sure it you’re in the market for a new grinder, but as I am also in Canada, I recently bought a Nexus grinder (Canadian made) and it has a 2 axis tracking system that adjusts to run your grinder in reverse as effectively as it does forwards. A lot safer for sharpening! I had a pleasure dealing with the guy at Nexus. I’m not in anyway involved or a representative for them, just a very happy customer! Speaking of happy customer, I also got my sanding block and I love it, cheers🍻 Griff.

Love that extension arm, you should create plans to sell!

Tormek knife sharpening jig. Have a look at long knife jig svm145.
But it might be worth looking at some of the cheaper copies like triton.

I have the tormek setup on my 2x72. try grinding bevel with the tormek arm on the contact wheel.

You can use two of those to keep your long kitchen knives straight while you sharpen them one at the start and one at the tip of the blade but I understand that’s another 40 bucks
