Have recently been to Istanbul. They really need to extend their service and build new lines. The city is so huge and highly populated, it can really take long to get around and especially the tram lines (mostly T1) was sometimes too full to get in. Still, was very interesting and they finished all of that within almost just 30 years

By the way, Marmaray's extension from Ayrılıkçeşmesi to Gebze is actually an interprovincial metro, since Gebze isn't a part of Istanbul, but a district of Kocaeli Province. This extension was necessary, since Gebze is the industrial hub of Turkey and many factory workers had to go from Istanbul's Anatolian half to work in Gebze after the government forced many industries out of Istanbul because of pollution.

This fantastic video is in dire needs of an update. 35km of additional metros have been added. M3 and M9 are now complete, the M5 and M11/U2 have been further extended, and another Tram like line (T6/U3) has opened.

The animation, word fonts and the choice of music fit well with each other. Great work!

Having been to Istanbul and used the metro and trams extensively there. I enjoyed their system and I found the expansion to be very pleasing compared to my own city Toronto.
I think the main challenge in Istanbul for building and connection is the Bosphorus strait which is actually massive meaning the European and Asian side of their metros feels disconnected. A second major challenge is just how absuredly hilly the area it is. The last and how quickly the city has grown and is growing.

Making a tunnel/bridge under/over the Bosphorus on the north side especially one north of 15th July Bridge would help despite engineering and cost challenge. Secondly, improving connections between tram lines to each other, metro station to metro stations, and tram stops to metro lines especially in the Golden Horde would help with ease of transfers and make getting to places like Haghia Sophia from elsewhere all the more easier. The city seems to have recognized and planned ahead on this but making sure lines are built based on future growth is a plus as well.

Lastly, getting from Levant to lets say the Anatolian Fortress takes a very long time by bus, part of it is due to traffic but by improving the number the buses on the road would intensively help with travel time, crowding, etc....

Hello, an immigrant from korea to turkey here, i have 3 things to say;

1. Seeing how recent were those made makes me feel younger

2. If we count future lines, i can tell that this is becoming like my own city, Seoul

3. If you ever wonder why are the lines so curvy, dont forget how hilly is istanbul

This is actually one of the hardest places to build a metro, literally line 7 is literally 50 meters deep underground and then 200 meters later it's 20 meters on top of the city

Вау! Как же круто это выглядит.
Придумать систему отрисовки, масштабирования, движения, анимации - очень дорогого стоит!

Одно наслаждение смотреть

Have been in Istanbul and really liked the care they put in the transportation service. I have never been to a metro station that was that clean, and even the train connecting to Gebze was so fast and clean as well. The busses may be a bit confusing but it’s usually good too. They also have a metro bus system, for the ones who wonder why there’s so little transportation to cross the Bosporus.

Hello guy.
As a Turk person from İstanbul Thanks for this video.Youtube has got a lot of channel about rail systems but this channels hasn't got video about İstanbul metro system. Thanks to you, many of our foreign brothers and sisters outside of Turkey learned a lot about Istanbul's transportation system. It is also a source of pride for our rail systems to develop all of a sudden. However, I found a problem in this video. Except for the problem, there is no problem in the video, from the station names to the quality of the video, and this makes the video a talented job. Stay respectful :)

This video is not up to date at all. After about 2 years, 3 new lines were opened and 2 more metro lines are planned to be opened in March. Will you make a second Istanbul video?

It's really weird to see each line making its own life without many interconnections or will to create a coherent network. Especially M4 and M5 fully on their own without any crossover with others metro lines. And why they have waited until 2014 to finally connect M1 + M2 metro lines ?
Back in 2007, if you want to travel between line M1 and M2, you need to :
- Leave M1 at Aksaray and taking T1.
- Leave T1 at Kabatas and taking F1 to finally join M2 Taksim station.
- Or even longer before T1 north extension : leaving T1 at Karaköy, taking F2 to Beyoglu and taking T2 to Taksim. x)
