Thanks for describing the free motion foot! My Pfaff 7550 is old and was my Grandma's...well, the instruction book just called it a darning foot and I was confused. But it functions the way you said and further googling shows it's the right one!

I have a pfaff 7570 a d that round button with squiggly lines is for sewing on buttons.
