"hope you’re happy" is a very reflective song for me, and it's actually about two people and has two meanings. it's partly about my first ex because she had completely moved on and that was the first time i realized how real that was. despite everything we went through, i just hope she’s happy because i’ll always love her. 

i was also going through a small split with my girl at the time. she was really trying to get me to stay with her even though it wasn’t right for either of us. i went back a couple times to try and make it work, and we were on and off for a while. so the song is also me saying “i hope you’re happy that you got your way” like i’m back with you even though we know it isn’t right.

sometimes, a song can come together from multiple places of inspiration. i think that's the beauty of music and storytelling. it doesn't always have to be just one thing. there is no code to expressing how you feel through art.
