This final webinar in the Challenges of Decarbonizing the Grid series features Stanford faculty and former co-directors of Precourt Institute for Energy, Sally Benson and Arun Mujamdar. It begins with a summary of what has been learned during the webinar series. Sally Benson, then discusses her latest study on California’s Senate Bill 100 “The 100 Percent Clean Energy Act of 2018.” SB 100 sets a goal of powering all retail electricity sold in California with renewable and zero-carbon resources by 2045 and updates the state’s Renewables Portfolio Standard to ensure that by 2030 at least 60 percent of California’s electricity is renewable. Arun Majumdar, covers the Federal Clean Electricity Standard which aims to achieve 80% carbon-free by 2030 and 100% by 2035. Sally and Arun will discuss strategies for achieving 80% clean energy by 2030 and the challenges of reaching 100% decarbonization by 2035.
